CONDITION - Subjugated Fate 7“ (iron lung - CØNDITIØN is back with a masterful stroke of devastation to follow up 2015's Actual Hell. They say some things get better with age and in this case we couldn't agree more. "Subjugated Fate" is an exploded blister on the rotten skin of humanity. And like that jingle that won't stop playing in your head, a festering sore in the aural canal. Still big, still vicious and always pure American D-Beat. Accept nothing less. 300 copies on radiation yellow vinyl with hand stamped labels housed in JAYBO art on a textured folder sleeve. Includes a download. Recorded in Lost Angeles by MIKE KRIEBEL. Punk.) 11.00

LP

ÁINE O'DWYER - Gallarais LP (mie - After releasing the now long sold out and incredible Music for Church Cleaners 2LP a few years ago MIE Music brings you Áine O'Dwyer's new record ‚Gallarais'. Sleep music, the underworld Twenty-six letters were sent, not far to travel, from Proust, hypersensitive writer to his upstairs neighbour, Marie Williams – ‘I was rather troubled by noise . . . I was trying to sleep off an attack. But at 8am the tapping on the parquet was so distinct that the Veronal didn’t work and I woke with the attack still raging.’ Marie Williams played harp, though it was not the harp that dragged Proust from the fumes of a bedroom armed against asthma attacks, cork-lined to smother noise. Hammerings disturbed him, the banging of carpet fitters, crates nailed shut. Similar disturbances creep into his books periodically: the ‘disagreeable’ noise of a newly installed heating boiler, ‘a sort of spasmodic hiccup’, which nonetheless served on every re-hearing to revive images of misty landscapes caught in his memory and ‘studied’ during the first morning the heater began its work. Proust spoke of an imperceptible breath, ‘like the wind breathing into the stem of a reed’, mingling with the subdued song of his dying grandmother’s breathing, ‘swift and light . . . gliding like a skater towards the delicious fluid’, the human sighs released at the approach of death, suggesting pain or pleasure ‘in those who can no longer feel’. David Toop, on hearing Áine O’Dwyer’s Gallarais and the subsequent conversations between November 2016 and January 2017.) 18.00

BRIGITTE FONTAINE & ARESKI - L'INCENDIE LP (byg - BACK IN PRINT! A reissue on 180-gram vinyl with reproduced artwork and labels. A wonderful work of minimal ethno-folk by the graceful Brigitte Fontaine and Areski Belkacem.) 18.00

CHELSEA WOLFE - hiss spun DLP (sargent house - 2LP with custom etching on side D + Download Card. "When musicians have this intensity in them, they often get to it sooner and stay put. Ms. Wolfe sounds like she's using it by choice, not disposition; she can use different kinds of darkness as colour or tincture." - New York Times "The reigning dark priestess of goth-scarred art rock." - Rolling Stone Hiss Spun is Chelsea Wolfe's sixth album, following her acclaimed 2015 album Abyss. Hiss Spun is at once dynamic, heavy, and raw. Recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge), the album was conceived as an emotional purge, a means of coming to terms with the tumult of the outside world by exploring the complexities of one's inner unrest. Every Chelsea Wolfe album is cathartic, but never before has both the artist and her audience so desperately needed this kind of emotional purging.) 30.00

THE DINOSAURS - same LP (bdr - The DINOSAURS were a garage-punk band that formed in St. Louis in 1978. Made up of misfits and outsiders, they existed alongside but apart from the emerging punk rock movement. To record collectors, the Dinosaurs are the creators of the sought after “Rock & Roll Moron” 45, which the band self-released in 1979. But to most patrons of underground culture around the Midwest, the Dinosaurs are known as the starting point in the musical history of BOB REUTER, St. Louis’ D.I.Y. “Renaissance Man” who gained regional success as a songwriter, radio DJ (“Bob’s Scratchy Records”), lo-fi photographer, and late-in-life author. Inspired by the new wave counterculture as much as the pop sensibilities it rebelled against, the Dinosaurs played a mix of proto-punk and classic rock, delighting some while offending others. Consisting of four ne’er-do-well city boys, the Dinosaurs were defiantly uncouth and had an explosive energy that mirrored the raw aggression of the forgotten, post-industrial Midwest city they called home. Alongside the catchy and compulsive songwriting of the band’s founder, Bob Reuter, the Dinosaurs became oddities in St. Louis’ growing punk scene. They made an initial splash as the weekend house band in a neighborhood dive bar playing for four hours a night. Their sets attracted a mixed crowd of factory workers, freaks and oddballs who fell in love with the wild musicians and the unruly atmosphere their music created. After a few months and one too many violent incidents, the band was asked to move on. The Dinosaurs drifted from venue to venue around the St. Louis metropolitan area, bringing their small but rowdy and loyal following with them wherever they went. At times they were celebrated, but at other times their brazen attitudes brought them into conflict with the rest of the scene. After a year and a half and one self-released 45, the band imploded on stage and went their separate ways.) 18.00

HYPNOBEAT - Prototech DLP (dark entries - Dark Entries and Serendip Lab have teamed up to release ‘Prototech’, the first vinyl retrospective by German electronic trio Hypnobeat, recorded 1984-86. James Dean Brown and Pietro Insipido formed Hypnobeat in 1983, but it was the addition of Victor Sol only a few months later that found the project reaching, as Brown puts it, "the desired level of technical sophistication." In time, Tobias Freund also lent his talents (and equipment) to this loose-fit sonic scheme, where the protagonists sought a new, electronic manifestation of mankind’s tribal music roots. Two cassette releases surfaced – 1985’s "Huggables", and "Specials/Spatials" the following year. By this point the Frankfurt-based group had already explored fiercely mechanical creative expression through various configurations of hardware and personnel, revolving around core ingredients such as the TR-808, TB-303 and MC-202. The project lived on in spirit as Brown activated Narcotic Syntax in the 90s. While a more modern, digital concern, rooted in the Perlon label family, NS still channeled the Hypnobeat concept of a "new tribalism", not least on their "Provocative Percussion" double 12" released in 2006. For all the punky veneer, there are instances where these tracks reach staggering levels of sophistication, not least on "Slash! Buffalo Eats Brass" with its intricately programmed 303 lines and nimble beats that sound a far cry from most machine music made in 1986. Prescient "Can God Rewind?" is also dazzling in the complexity of its percussion and the richness of its synth lines in C as they throb out a bastardised version of acidic Disco straight out of the rhythm collider. Elsewhere, some tracks are more primal in their execution. Visceral opening track "The Arumbaya Fetish" was a cathartic venting of Brown’s least favourite sound on the 808, the iconic cowbell, while the astounding proto-Acid miniature "Moon Jump" places limber 303 lead lines in a hail of thunderstruck patterns. "Kilian" has a stripped down quality that speaks more to the industrial era that Hypnobeat was conceived in, and "Mission In Congo" is a raw, reverb-soaked drum workout that captures the percussive-obsessive nature of Hypnobeat perfectly. Six of the seven tracks selected on this collection were primarily powered by two 808s. "I am amazed that the release sounds like we really had a plan back then…" states Brown, but this accidental magic is in fact the raison d’etre of Hypnobeat. They weren’t the only ones prefiguring the next big revolutions in electronic music in the mid 80s, but there certainly weren’t many artists stumbling across modes of expression that sound so relevant today. All songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Housed in a jacket featuring cave engravings by Pietro Insipido of an archer and animal printed in a wallpaper pattern style designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes an transparent insert of an x-ray photograph from 1984 of Romulus Cœurque holding the circuit board of a BOSS DR-55 rhythm machine.) 25.00

HISS GOLDEN MESSENGER - Hallelujah Anyhow LP Hallelujah Anyhow is the new studio album from HISS GOLDEN MESSENGER. Its ten new songs, penned by HGM principal M.C. TAYLOR, were recorded with BRAD COOK, PHIL COOK, JOSH KAUFMAN, DARREN JESSEE, MICHAEL LEWIS and EVAN RINGEL. ALEXANDRA SAUSER-MONNIG, TIFT MERRITT, SKYLAR GUDASZ, TAMISHA WADEN, MAC MCCAUGHAN and JOHN PAUL WHITE provided vocal harmonies. “I see the dark clouds. I was designed to see them. They’re the same clouds of fear and destruction that have darkened the world since Revelations, just different actors. But this music is for hope. That’s the only thing I want to say about it. Love is the only way out. I’ve never been afraid of the darkness; it’s just a different kind of light. And if some days that belief comes harder than others, hallelujah anyhow.”—M.C. Taylor.) 20.00

KEINE AHNUNG - Keine Ahnung LP (dark entries - Keine Ahnung was a quartet from Wörth am Rhein, Germany formed in 1980. The original line up was Rolf Schmuck, Franz H. Rodenkirchen, Elke Fuchs and Olaf Schumacher. Hermann Kopp from Stuttgart, a friend of the band, contributed a composition on their first LP and became a full member in 1985. Taking cues from Conrad Schnitzler, Tuxedomoon and Dome, the band members shared a common interest in industrial, pop, avant garde literature and cinema. Their controversial name translates to “Don’t know” or “Haven’t got a clue” in German. The quartet would record three LPs in 6 years, two of which remain unreleased.   In March 1983, Keine Ahnung recorded their self-produced and financed debut LP in two days in a small studio in Stuttgart (12 hours total). The mixing was done in one day in a studio in Karlsruhe, April 1983. The self-titled LP was released later that summer on their own PASSIV label in an edition of 1000 copies. This record obtained recognition far beyond the German borders. Keine Ahnung in the studio and live were completely different. Studio time was expensive in these days, so the music was minimal electronic pop, expertly crafted and razor sharp man machine music. The live sound utilized more complex synthesizers, tapes, guitars, metal percussion and custom built electronics. The beats and bass lines came from the Roland 606/303 duo triggering a KORG MS-20 for the bass drum. The track "Funkbild DPA" is a spontaneous "live in the studio" recording, that gives a hint of what the live sound was like. All four members would take turns singing and playing the instruments.   The original master tape was transferred by Frieder Butzmann in Berlin. All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA. The vinyl is housed in an exact replica jacket designed by Rolf Schmuck, featuring black and white texture and cartoon drawings the band members. Each copy includes a double sided insert featuring lyrics, notes and photos of the band.) 18.00

LARRY CONKLIN & JOCHEN BLUM - jackdaw LP (tompkins - The fourth LP in Tompkins Square's series of private press solo guitar reissues, all by artists featured on the compilation Imaginational Anthem Vol 8 : The Private Press. LARRY CONKLIN bought his first guitar, a Gibson J-45, in 1970, after he got out of the army. “I taught myself to play. I wrote songs and instrumentals (at that time Bert Jansch was my guiding light). I listened to a lot of people—Leo Kottke, John Renbourn, Django Reinhardt, Lonnie Johnson, Robert Johnson—and especially Rev. Gary Davis, who played only with his thumb and index finger as I did.” Larry’s first record, Jackdaw was self-released in 1980 and includes beautiful solo 12 string acoustic guitar tracks, as well as gentle acoustic duets with violinist, JOCHEN BLUM. Larry met Jochen in Florence, Italy, in 1980 and commented that “his violin playing put excitement into my music. It was special. I pressed 300 copies and sent them out into the world.”  Larry wrote '”The Diamond Cutter” in 1978 while going to Seattle Community College, in a creative writing course. The inspiration for the song, according to Larry “was a girl who wrote a poem to a departing lover - You only deal with cut glass. I deal with diamonds. I introduced myself to her as the Diamond Cutter.” In 1985 while living in Berlin, Larry got a letter from a woman in Seattle who informed him that Charles Royer was running for a third term as Mayor of Seattle and that “The Diamond Cutter” was being used as a campaign song. Royer won, November 5th 1985.) 18.00

LE SEUL ELEMENT - demon LP (The 2017 album from French experimental noise wave artist Le Seul Élément, including a guest appearance by darkwave darlings Bestial Mouths! On their debut album Demon, Le Seul Élément combines elements of piano, noise and darkwave, weaving textures and melodies with incredible skill. A rare solo project from a French artist who has mainly been involved in collaborative projects, Demon abounds with a sense of newly found artistic freedom, taking it’s time to build its tense sonic textures. There’s a vast, cinematic quality to LSE’s music, which makes it no surprise that one of Demon’s tracks, the melancholic epic “Mad Mersey Beat,” has already been tapped for use in an upcoming horror movie Devil’s Domain starring Michael Madsen (Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs). The album also features a brilliant collaboration with Lynette Cerezo, vocalist and founding member of dark electronic band and fellow Cleopatra Records artist Bestial Mouths, on the track “Her Eyes,” which can be streamed below.
) 15.00

MAPACHE - Mapache LP (“Close your eyes and imagine the Everly Brothers wearing Tie-Dyed Nudie Suits. Okay, now open them. There’s Mapache. Clay Finch and Sam Blasucci are barely in their 20s and already rising to the top of the new wave of West Coast Cosmic Americana. Born and raised in Glendale, California, their breathtaking harmonies and heartfelt yet heady sound was honed by surfing the beaches and exploring the deserts and canyons of their native California.  “The lineage of the band has blood running back to the first wave of psychedelic country revivalists Beachwood Sparks—Clay is a cousin of main man Chris Gunst. Chris and I went to bat for the band by helping them score their first club shows and recording sessions with Dan Horne.  “Dan eventually produced this album at the vintage analog halls of legendary Valentine Recording Studios, where the tape rolled and captured the live spirited harmony, skillful strumming and genuinely well-crafted songs that everyone from Chris Robinson to Jonathan Richman have fallen in love with. The real charm lies in the simplicity of their voices and the songs that recall a young Gene Clark, The Louvins, Crosby, Stills and Townes ... it’s all there and more.)18.00

MONARCH - Never Forever DLP (prfound lore - With their new album Never Forever, France’s premiere extreme doom metal band Monarch take their singular style of punishing ritualistic amplifier worship toward melancholic territory. More ghostly, atmospheric, and haunting than 2014’s Sabbracadaver, this latest also sees more form and shape with their songwriting while still harnessing that plodding, down-tuned, crushing low-end that is their signature backdrop to vocalist Emilie Bresson’s enchanting and spellbinding vocals. With this album’s melancholic tone, Bresson’s vocals are increasingly ethereal and delicate, while still juxtaposing them with her otherworldly harsh shrieks.  Since 2002, Monarch have been France’s most recognized and active band in the scene, supported through countless tours all over the world (recently including multiple ones of Japan) and myriad releases on multiple respected labels, alongside such like-minded bands as Corrupted, Noothgrush, Burning Witch, and Khanate.) 31.00

O TERCO - Terco LP (O Terço was one of the first progressive bands from Brazil. The band, whose name means "rosary beads" in Portuguese, first formed in 1968. On their first album, O Terço (1970) was not yet full on prog, but it is a seminal work in the history Brazilian progressive music. There are obvious influences of the Moody Blues, and Pink Floyd.) 16.00

PRIMITIVE MAN - Caustic 2LP (relapse - Denver’s nihilistic trio PRIMITIVE MAN return with Caustic, their second full-length offering of soul-crushing blackened doom and noise-ridden claustrophobia. Recorded and produced at Flatline Audio by Dave Otero (Cobalt, Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation), Caustic is 12 songs and 75+ minutes of bloodcurdling howls, abysmal tones and dense, unsettling feedback spewing forth a cesspool of utter misery. With lyrical themes ranging from political corruption, personal struggle and the crumbling social climate facing the world today, Caustic serves as a cataclysmic soundtrack for a world gone awry.) 25.00

RAVEN - who do you see LP (goldne - Originally from Terre Haute Indiana, members of Raven played and toured with bands such as Reo Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Dan fogelberg etc.. George Phelps who had joined The “Carnations” met up with “Goliath” members in a studio and through a myriad of circumstances, teaming up with drummer Robert Wolff (ex “Micah”) these musicians merged into “Raven” in Louisville KY in late 1972. From this moment on, the band toured extensively through 24 states non-stop for the next 4 years before recording this material in 1976, unreleased until today. The material was recorded in Atlanta Georgia at a studio called “The Sound Pit” Memories of going into the studio at night and working until the sun came up and feeling like I was floating on a cloud because it sounded so good (Doug – Raven’s keyboardist) Soon after the recording was completed, Raven got a record deal with Capricorn records. 2 weeks later, they went bankrupt. The tapes were subsequently destroyed in a fire. Strictly limited to 500 copies in high quality old-style tip-on Jacket + Obi.) 20.00

SHANNON LAY - Living Water LP (mare - Received a 7.8 rating from Pitchfork.  The debut release on Mare, Kevin Morby’s new imprint with Woodsist Records, Shannon Lay’s Living Water is an instant classic. Recorded by Emmet Kelly (Cairo Gang, Bonnie Prince Billy, Ty Segall) in his Los Angeles home studio, this is an album where the room reacts to the music taking shape around it.  Lay’s voice transcends time and space. One can’t tell if she’s old or new, if she’s sitting next to you, on a mountain top, or down in some canyon. Her second album to be released in 2017, she is a prolific songwriter, who lives and breathes melody, with guitar skills to boot. Despite its fourteen tracks, the album comes in well under forty minutes, but like Pink Moon or Just Another Diamond Day before it, this is music so potent it exists outside the realms of time—in a world specific only to itself and the new feelings it creates.) 20.00

SIMON JOYNER - Step Into The Earthquake DLP (US Press! Simon Joyner is among America’s best songwriters, so says Gillian Welch, Conor Oberst, Kevin Morby, and others. With his new double album, Step Into The Earthquake, he strikes for the personal while acknowledging that the times they are a-changin’ around us again. Things are leaning shitty right now, and the characters in Joyner’s songs experience the dissolution of comfort amid anxious concerns regarding our turbulent times. To record, Joyner’s band, The Ghosts, holed up with longtime collaborator, Michael Krassner (Boxhead Ensemble), in Omaha’s ARC Studio, developing songs from skeletal foundations to full-on group efforts.  Joyner’s vision may be dark but it stops short of nihilism. Where do we go from here? The best move toward answering that question is knowing where we stand right now. This expansive album offers a poet’s truthful view, however disconcerting, that to survive whatever is coming for us, we have to confront and understand it first. So, go ahead and step into the earthquake.  “Omaha has given us the reigning heir to Henry Miller’s dark emotional mirror, Townes Van Zandt’s three-chord moan, and Lou Reed’s warehouse minimalism: his name is Simon Joyner.” — Gillian Welch  “Pound for pound Simon Joyner is my favorite lyricist of all time.” — Conor Oberst “Simon’s always been a secret handshake amongst me and my peers. He’s a pioneer.” — Kevin Morby) 25.00

SUTEKH HEXEN / HISSING - split LP (flenser - Hissing and Sutekh Hexen are two of the murkiest, most cacophonous groups operating in the margins of the contemporary metal underground. Now, these hellish projects come together to release a split album on The Flenser. Since 2008, Sutekh Hexen have turned the paradigm of black metal completely on its ear. The group creates what can be described as a dense tapestry of black noise, or a wall of intricate tones deconstructing itself brick by brick. Their rich, unparalleled compositions cultivate further interest with each listen. Founded in 2014 out of a mutual interest in deranged and punishing sounds, Seattle’s Hissing is often described as “blackened sludge.” This does little justice describing the harsh, dissonant soundscapes created by this trio. To date they have released two EPs through Disorder Recordings and Southern Lord, and have a full-length forthcoming.) 18.00

VILE CREATURE - a steady descent into the soil LP (broken limb - A Steady Descent into the Soil is the debut LP from St. Catharines, Ontario's Vile Creature. Crafted during winter 2014 and recorded in an abandoned school house in rural Canada, the record acts as a cull of emotions derived from the inherent violence and hatred experienced growing up queer around the millennium, a time much less homo-positive than today's landscape. Three songs of fuzzed-out atmospheric doom are sprawled over nearly 40 minutes, creating a record described as "wonderfully unique" and "undeniably original" by noisey & metalinjection, respectively.) 14.00

TAPES

HAUNTER / SOVEREIGN - split TAPE (For a scene which was once so reviled, the US black metal movement is a treasure trove of creativity. From sea to boiling sea, there are countless bands who either add a tremendous weight to black metal or whet its ever-dulling blade. Two younger bands, Haunter and Sovereign, represent this pummeling power and sharp ferocity, respectively. Together on this split, they write a greater truth concerning the creative spirit of American Black Metal in the new century." ( invisible oranges )) 6.00

MAG

COMETBUS - #58 MAG (A teenager finds solace in a diner full of grumpy seniors during the heydey of San Francisco punk. The latest Cometbus zine reads like a novel, but is it fiction or thinly disguised autobiography? That's up to the reader to decide and AARON never to let on. Either way, it captures the spirit of a place and an era, from the sexual and racial politics to the sour taste of the coffee and the backstory of the woman glaring at you) 3.00

MAXIMUM ROCK N ROLL - #412 | September 2017 MAG (Another killer issue ripping it up with features on ALICE BAG, MIDNITE SNAXXX, ELIX-R, NO U TURN, FATIGUE, SACRIFICIO, COLD INSTITUTION, BIG MESS, Nothing Nice To Say Fest, Dumb Fest, and more. Also included are the usual assortment of columns, news items, action-packed photos and reviews.) 5.00

MAXIMUM ROCK N ROLL - #413 October 2017 MAG (A ripping four-hundred-thirteenth issue of punk rock's finest gets you the goods on NEON, NOFU, FEATURE, MACHO BOYS, MONIKA ESTRELLA NEGRA & MICHELLE GARZA CERVERA, FURY, BAUS, and LOS IMPUESTOS, along with the usual assortment of columns, news items, action-packed photos and reviews. THEY SLEEP WE LIVE / PIRI REIS - split 7“ (Phenomenal 7" split from one active and one now defunct screamy hardcore bands. PIRI REIS are from Malaysia, play shrieky hardcore and have Arwith from Utarid in the band! THEY SLEEP WE LIVE were from Germany and this is their last recording. Too bad, the melodic screamo/post-hardcore was fucking awesome.) 5.00

Vi Som Älskade Varandra Så Mycket / THEY SLEEP WE LIVE - Split 7“ (Whooa – this split between Vi som älskade varandra så mycket from sweden and THEY SLEEP WE LIVE from germany turned out stunning. 3 top-notch screamo songs packed in a super-soft gatefold cover with beautiful artwork by Felipe Montt. A 7″ made with a lot of love and passion – I wanna thank give hugs to the bands and Blood Of The Young, Dingleberry records and distribution, Pike Records, Tief in Marcellos Schuld Records, Zegema Beach Records. You are all rad and amazing people.) 6.00

9“

TAPESTRY / COMA REGALIA - Our Laughter Under Cerulean Skies 9“ (dingleberry- Singapore’s TAPESTRY and Indiana based COMA REGALIA have a new split recording called “Our Laughter Under Cerulean Skies”, featuring two diverse sides and serves as a qorthy addition to COMA REGALIA’s extensive discography.  Custom size 9" vinyl in custom made 9" picture disc sleeves. Silk screen covers and lyric sheet tucked safely inside.) 12.00

LP

ASAGRAUM - protestas magicum LP (A magickal work of nightsky majesty, simmering celestial aggression, and the most potent tenets of '90s Scandinavian black metal, Potestas Magicum Diaboli breathes and billows a blast-from-the-past classicism that nevertheless manages to sound fresh among the modern BM landscape, outstripping the prevailing trends and the pretenders who enable them. Perhaps more importantly, it is the work of two women - a rarity in black metal, both past and especially present - who hereby render gender an irrelevant argument. Simply, Potestas Magicum Diaboli stands on its own, towering and terrifying. A cross-continental entity, ASAGRAUM was founded in the autumn of 2015 by vocalist/guitarist Obscura and drummer T. Kolsvart. The original intent was to play pure, Satanic black metal, in all its aspects, with the old-school feeling of the eternal '90s greats but also with dark psychedelic influences. A three-track promo recording was released earlier this year, laying bare ASAGRAUM's aims and accordingly special sound. Until then, let Potestas Magicum Diaboli revive the old cult of the witches, radiating forever the black flame of Lilith.) 20.00

BATTERY - For The Rejected By The Rejected LP (revelation - Battery was a staple of the Washington, DC hardcore scene during the '90s, formed by a who's who of that scene, including members of Damnation A.D., Better Than A Thousand, Shelter, Ashes and Worlds Collide. From 1991-1998 the band released numerous EPs and LPs that have mostly been in high demand for reissues leading up to Revelation Records reissuing "Whatever It Takes" in 2014. Includes a 48-page, 12" x 12" book with lyrics, oral history of the band and piles of photos and other artwork from throughout the band's history. LP includes digital download of this record.) 17.00

BIG|BRAVE – Ardor LP (southern lord - A beautiful album of sheer power, delicate restraint, and beautiful swells into enormous sounds. What these three can create is never short of staggering. As with their previous release, Ardor was recorded a the Hotel2Tango, this time by Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (of Jerusalem In My Heart). Jessica Moss (Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra), who was a special guest on Au De La, played violin on all of the three new tracks and Thierry Amar (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) played contrabass on two of the tracks. Since their inception in 2012, BIG|BRAVE demonstrate the fluidity of experimental rock when elaborated into vast, abstract, and often hypnotic sounds, saturated in soulbaring emotion. The trio put everything into their music, until there's nothing left to give. Their particular art in musical refinement expands ever gradually, unfurling into a very heavy, strong, and elevating force. As comfortable as they are with tidal waves of sound, BIG|BRAVE is unafraid to experiment with silence, oscillating between sparse, gentle arrangements and deep swells of noise.) 17.00

THE CARETAKER - Everywhere At The End Of Time - Stage 3 LP (history always —- The third of a six album cycle cataloguing The Caretaker’s fictional first person account of life with early onset dementia, presenting some of the last coherent memories before confusion fully rolls in and the grey mists fade away. In this crepuscular, autumnal phase, recollections phosphoresce and wilt in advancing stages of entropic decay, steadily approaching a winter of no return. Continuing to mirror the progression of dementia, using nostalgia for ballroom as an allegory of the disease, The Caretaker’s musical flow in places becomes more disturbed, isolated, broken and distant. Singular memories, and all their connotations, begin to atrophy and calcify, crumbling away with each rotation of the record - sometimes in curt scene cuts, others in quietly breathtaking reverbed fizzles; like tea lights extinguished, never to flicker again.) 25.00

COURTNEY BARNETT & KURT VILE - Lotta Sea Lice LP (ltd. col. vinyl) (KURT VILE: We ran into each other on the road in various continents and talked about the recordings. I guess it wasn’t till i had another tour booked for the following summer in Australia that we thought we should record as much as we can, no major goal to make it a full length but it came together that way because the vibe was so strong. I love working with Courtney, the collaboration was laid back with less pressure.  COURTNEY BARNETT: Now we nished the album, we dreamt up an amazing band which we’ve called THE SEA LICE (inspired by a Stella Mozgawa beach-side-story) and me n Kurt will be standing there out front with our guitars singing songs together. Songs from this album we did, a handful of our own songs from previous albums, maybe some old folk songs n what not. Harmonies and guitarmonies galore. Very collaborative.  Lotta Sea Lice is the result of 8 days in the studio spread over almost 15 months when Courtney and Kurt’s respective touring schedules allowed for them to be in the same place at the same time. ) 23.00

DAGS! - Snowed In / Stormed Out LP (dingleberry - The debut album from Italian emo trio DAGS!. DAGS! are three melodic riff sweethearts from Milan, Italy. Born in the spring of 2013 while guitarist and vocalist Marcantonio was living in London, they released their debut self-titled EP in August 2014 making full use of his bag of riffs collected over the years. ) 12.00

DAWN RAY'D - The Unlawful Assembly LP (Autumn 2017 sees the UK’s Dawn Ray'd return with their first full length LP and second release, The Unlawful Assembly. Pitching a more spiteful and malevolent anger against a new found triumph of melody and blasts, Dawn Ray'd delve deeper into the world from what their 2015 debut EP, A Thorn, A Blight, revealed to us. Recorded by Tom Dring at Vagrant Studios, The Unlawful Assembly is divided into two parts: The Wild Service and The Wild Magic; it is equal parts malice and spite; ethereality and exultation. From the clean singing of A Litany To Cowards to the thrashing pace of Emptiness Beneath The Great Emptiness, the album “breathes new fire into black metal's small but sturdy leftist tradition, crafting potent, violin-laced atmospheric black metal songs that double as battle hymns for the class war” – Noisey. ) 14.00

ELODIE - Vieux Silence LP (idologic organ - Having been entranced by both Andrew Chalk’s work with MIRROR (and back to his solo works as FERIAL CONFINE, plus multiple collaborations with David Jackman, The New Blockaders, Daisuke Suzuki, etc ) and Timo van Luijk (as Af Ursin, In Camera, La Poupée Vivante, and collaborations with Kris Vanderstraeten and others) for many years, I was naturally intrigued to hear about and hear their duo project ELODIE. The project formed in 2010, and has spanned eleven beautiful albums already, to date.  "Vieux Silence” for Ideologic Organ is their first release presented outside of their own record publishing nook, Faraway Press & La Scie Dorée. However this is not the first encounter between Ideologic Organ & ELODIE, they performed at a night in London I curated in February 2012, alongside Jessika Kenney & Eyvind Kang. Elodie’s performance was among the most delicately engaging and savant I have witnessed… so very quiet, with snow falling in London outside Cafe Oto’s windows, the audience palpably entered a high intensity listening focus. The impression of this vivid memory is striking, considering how spare each of the individual elements present that night were.) 18.00

KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD - Sketches Of Brunswick East LP (heavenly - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is an insanely good, prolific, psych rock band from Melbourne, Australia. Mild High Club is Alexander Brettin, insanely good, freakishly mellow dude on Stones Throw. They got together and made an album called Sketches Of Brunswick East and it comes out tomorrow.  The two bands formed a friendship touring together across Norther America, Europe, and Australia the last couple of years. King Gizzard’s Stu Mackenzie says, "I think we hit it off because our approaches are very different … Alex has studied music, whereas my approach is to fling shit at the wall and see what sticks. I can’t read sheet music at all. But we’re like the two ends of a horseshoe coming to meet in the middle."  Alex stayed at Stu’s place for three weeks after the last tour and spent most days in the studio with the band recording the album. The title could be perceived as both a knowing nod towards Miles Davis’s Sketches Of Spain– whose fusion of American jazz, European classical and Spanish song structures gave us one of the 20th century’s most important albums – and the sketchy on-the-hop, improvised nature of its creation. It also sees the band exploring the Tropicalia element only ever previously hinted at. Stu explains that a change of pace and tempo was necessary after "a concurrent period of productivity, a ball of energy and ideas". Logistically, its creation saw the sifting through "piles of ideas" previously laid down during intense periods of creation that their frontman confesses he barely remembers having taken place. Truly this is impulsive music, sketches of time and place reworked and pieced together, akin to, says Stu "sampling-culture, in which old ideas are reshaped and suddenly things make sense. It was like we were continually jamming with ourselves."  Sketches Of Brunswick East is King Gizzard’s third of five projected albums to be released in 2017. ) 20.00

LOW LIFE - dogging LP (alter - There’s an ordeal that underpins Low Life's 'Dogging,' and looking back at it, perhaps this was inevitable given the album's exceptionally derogatory attitude to its own scattered sense of time and debris. It's an attitude that's been hosed down in bore water-stained stupor, with all the anguished but forgivable hope and charm of plain packaged cigarettes.  'Dogging' crawled into the world desperately and painfully. Originally slated for release on Brisbane's singular Negative Guest List Records in 2012, the label's owner sadly passed away before it got there. It eventually emerged two years later as a split between two labels from the band's home turf of Sydney, Disinfect Records and R.I.P. Society. It's fitting that the latter had reissued Venom P. Stinger's Dugald McKenzie-era material the year prior—arguably the only other Australian band that compares to the tough, shit-kicking intensity found on 'Dogging.'  Comprised of Mitch Tolman, Cristian O'Sullivan, and Greg Alfaro at this point (the current 2017 line-up includes Dizzy from Oily Boys), the reckless ferocity and defeatist's humour is pointedly nihilistic. It's not kitsch nihilism either, it's the kind that enlivens. Indexing happiness, fear, lust, grief, and sorrow, the wry indulgences outlined in Tolman's coded and scheming lyrics amount to white-knuckle sincerity. It's disarming, but it's blunted by a weighty smirk. If all this weren't delivered through a sardonic curled lip, the violence at the edge of it all would perhaps come off a little less real. There's a bitterly angry confrontation with the contemporary Australian psyche once you enter Low Life's estate. ) 20.00

NAZORANAI - Beginning To Fall In Line Before Me, So Decorously, The Nature Of All That Must Be Trans LP (w25 - Nazoranai is the supergroup of Keiji Haino, Oren Ambarchi and Stephen O’Malley. For close to four decades, Haino has been a legendary figure in Japan’s avant-garde community through his commanding presence in the band Fushitsusha and numerous solo ventures. Ambarchi, a prolific electro-acoustic composer of heavy ambience and hypno-rock, has long stood at the leading edge of Australia’s experimental music scene, while O’Malley remains a principle architect for the drone / doom metal project Sunn O))) in harnessing extreme sub-harmonic frequencies. Collectively, Nazoranai operates as a live recorded collaboration, although Haino is quick to point out the difference between the words “nazoranai” (which in Japanese calligraphy means “not repeating,” as in developing a distinct, individual style) and “sokkyō” (referring specifically to improvisation). In this parsing of terms, the group separates themselves from the free-music scene, which can be just as convention-bound as the established genres from which improvisers hope to escape. On the trio’s third album, Beginning To Fall In Line Before Me, So Decorously, The Nature Of All That Must Be Transformed, Nazoranai explore two side-long tracks of superb abstraction. Ambarchi and O’Malley provide the perfect brute-rock rhythm section to Haino’s wrecklessly pure expression through instrument and voice. Blurred noise, dark hurdy-gurdy and thunderous harmonics build an accretive mantra of jagged electricity. While Haino’s extensive discography resists easy interpretation, he constantly challenges himself to further his art by channeling the unknown. Shifting from his native Japanese to English, he asks: “Do you still have a mystery?” This existential plea could apply to the artist’s own deep inquisitions or stand to confront his audience about that which eludes their understanding. W.25TH / Superior Viaduct is proud to present Nazoranai’s latest work, recorded at SuperDeluxe in Tokyo, which marks the band’s first release on an American label.

PRURIENT - Unknown Rains LP (hospital - Originally released as a limited edition cassette run in 2016. Utterly destructive and heart-wrenching power noise and catharsis from the don gorgon of Hospital Productions, making his first album confession since the release of the stunning Frozen Niagara Falls. Taking almost 40 minutes to spell out a litany of ills that mark up as classic, pain-saturated Prurient in contrast with the more layered, nuanced narrative and more complex production values of his last album, the set boots off with the infernal backdraft and flagellating vox of the album's most succinct piece, Let Your Mind Free (Whip The Corpse). Sharp blasts of noise distortion conceal a forlorn Fernow vocal, like that classic Lynchian conceit of obscuring dialogue at the most crucial moment, perversely enhancing narrative through obstruction. It's a brilliant, disturbing opener.) 22.00

SELVANS - clangores plenilunio LP (vendetta - Five tracks originally released on CD via Avantgarde Music in 2015 including an In The Woods cover song. Black Metal with a dramatic symphonic edge, large use of keyboards and ethnic / folk instrumentations. ) 14.00

UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS - vol. 1 LP (rise above - First released on Friday 13th February 2010 (40 years to the day after Black Sabbath’s debut LP), Vol 1 was the first efforts of unknown songwriter, Kevin Starrs. Pressed in small numbers for a non existing fan base, the album took several months to shift all 30 CD-R copies and provided a small platform to fund it's follow up, BLOOD LUST (2011). Recorded on a tight budget of stashed dole money and with little knowledge or regard for conventional recording techniques, the chaotic results speake for themselves; Distorted vocals, out of tune harmonies, ragged musicianship and everything pushed to the red. The clatter of mic stands falling over mid performance, the rustling of lyric papers, the missed key changes and flubbed lines. Everything you would want to avoid is here. Self funded, self recorded and self released to a fanfare of silence, VOL 1 was a true D.I.Y. effort from start to finish. No great ambition, no target audience, no press support. Just a collection of songs for anyone who would listen. With it’s mix of budget horror lyrics, Everly Brothers obsessed harmonies, downer rock riffs, overly long guitar solos and bizzarre high pitched vocals, Vol 1 had very limited appeal outside a small group of underground fanatics. ) 18.00

UNSANE - Sterilize LP (southern l lord - Since 1988, UNSANE has pounded the planet with their caustic grooves and foundation-crumbling riffs, having released LPs through a wide range of labels including Matador/Atlantic, Amphetamine Reptile, Relapse, Ipecac, Alternative Tentacles, and others, not to mention a wide range of singles, splits, and live albums. The band's gnarled blend of punk, metal, noise, and hardcore helping to define the "AmRep sound" alongside other forerunners of the style, Today Is The Day, The Jesus Lizard, Helmet, Tad, Cows, Halo Of Flies, Melvins, and others.Closing a five-year gap since the 2012 release of their Wreck LP through Alternative Tentacles, UNSANE makes a vicious return with the pummeling Sterilize, a record that recalls the most defining elements of the band's seminal Scattered, Smothered, And Covered and Occupational Hazard albums, surging with the band's unrelenting singular sound created by guitarist/vocalist Chris Spencer, bassist/vocalist Dave Curran, and drummer Vinnie Signorelli. Sterilize was produced by UNSANE, recorded by Dave Curran at Gatos Trail Studios in Yucca Valley, California, mixed by Andrew Schneider at Acre in New York City, and mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering in Chicago. Sterilize showcases UNSANE sounding as dense and damaging as ever, and sees them remaining as necessary as ever, nearly three decades since they began.) 17.00

THE WEATHER STATION - same LP (paradise of - Deluxe 140g virgin vinyl LP features heavy-duty board jacket with full lyrics, full-color inner sleeve, and high-res Bandcamp download code On her fourth (and tellingly self-titled) album as The Weather Station, Tamara Lindeman reinvents, and more deeply roots, her extraordinary, acclaimed songcraft, framing her precisely detailed, exquisitely wrought prose-poem narratives in bolder and more cinematic musical settings. The result is her most sonically direct and emotionally candid statement to date, a work of profound urgency and artistic generosity. "Timeless... Measured, perceptive storytelling. A singer with an unmistakable & communicative voice, able to convey hope & hurt with equal clarity." - Pitchfork "She writes literate songs with unusual precision & sings them in an understated, open-hearted way that lends good poetry the directness of conversation." - Uncut "Bob Dylan aside, the singer-songwriter I've listened to most over the past year, & to whom I expect to be paying attention for many more to come, is Tamara Lindeman, who, under the name the Weather Station, performs songs notable for a conversational fluency, a diarist's powers of observation, & a quiet refusal of emotional simplicities." - Richard Williams, The Guardian)) 20.00

WITH THE DEAD - love from with the dead DLP (rise above - Doom is all around us. The optimism of a new millennium has steadily disintegrated. The light at the end of the tunnel turned out to be a burning tower block and the powers-that-be are dancing in the smouldering ruins. Humanity is eating itself and we’re all terminally fucked. As a result, it makes perfect sense that the emergence of British doom metal mavens With The Dead would strike a dissonant chord with so many people. Formed in 2014 by former Cathedral/Napalm Death frontman and Rise Above Records boss Lee Dorrian and ex-Electric Wizard/Ramesses bassisit/guitarist Tim Bagshaw, the band coalesced in a monetary burst of spontaneity and shared fury, resulting in the release of their eponymous debut album in 2015: one of that year’s most widely acclaimed releases and a welcome shot in the arm for fans of merciless, unrelenting sonic despair. Hell-bent on staking a further claim to be doom metal’s most intense and remorseless practitioners, With The Dead have now completed work on their second album, Love From With The Dead. Comprising tracks recorded during two separate sessions with celebrated studio guru Jaime Gomez Arellano, the new material represents the first fruits of the band’s recently retooled line-up. Joining Lee and Tim are bassist Leo Smee (ex-Cathedral) and drummer Alex Thomas (ex Bolt Thrower). It is, without doubt,  that With The Dead are a formidable and substantial proposition, the quartet’s second album could hardly provide a more apposite soundtrack to the deeply fucked up and irrevocably dysfunctional state of the world in 2017. Both a fine example of the simple, savage power of the riff and an authentic outpouring of anger, bitterness, bile and vivid existential dread, it is the living, breathing, screaming embodiment of heaviness itself. Cometh the hour, cometh the bringers of doom) 24.00

7“

ABSOLUTION - Juxtaposition 7“ (wardance - This 7", recorded in 2011, features three new tracks and one re-recorded classic from the group that was at one point Gavin Van Vlack's band before Burn. 7" includes digital download.) 6.50

HARAM - what do you see? 7“ (toxic state - This is the debut 7" from Haram. The first thing you'll notice about this New York City hardcore band is that their lyrics and much of the text on the record are in Arabic (with English translations). While in translation the lyrics seem impressionistic rather than didactic, at least part of the point here seems to be putting the members' Arabic background at the forefront of the band's aesthetic, which is very cool. Musically, this has a tighter, denser sound than a lot of other bands on Toxic State. The cadences of the vocals here are reminiscent of some Italian bands like Wretched or Finnish bands like Terveet Kadet. The music is fierce enough to live up to those comparisons as well, although there's also a lot of semi-melodic lead guitar similar to bands like Funeral Oration, or maybe the more ambitious sound of the last 12" from Wretched.) 7.00

PATIENCE - White Of An Eye 7“ (nigjt school - Patience – aka songwriter Roxanne Clifford – may have begun as a solo refuge from the Manchester-born, LA-Resident’s band duties but White Of An Eye, her 3rd single, is a fully formed, dancing-with-a tear-in-your-eye, confident Pop Moment. The attempt at shedding memories to embrace the present, an ode to the moment. Like her previous two singles The Church and The Pressure, Lewis Cook of Happy Meals engineers Clifford’s vision to Jacno-esque synth pop perfection. Blooming with a tentative synth cadence and nonchalant spoken word introduction, White Of An Eye soon erupts into perfect disco melancholy, with Clifford’s imagery perfectly nailing that nagging regret that haunts every new adventure. With the first appearance of a guitar hook in a Patience song, it’s a classic pop moment enunciated perfectly by Clifford’s instantly recognizable vocal. “Melted skies, horizon lines are floating overhead” Blue Sparks Is a nocturne peppered with impressionistic imagery, romantic and doomed. Minimalist and affecting, here Patience is simply two synth lines and Clifford’s vocal. It’s Patience’s version of a Berntholer-style sadness, even evoking a Yazoo ballad. Like a Johnny Jewel production injected with passion, Patience captures the spark between two human hearts, the elusive, indefinable chemistry of sleepless, endless nights.) 11.00

PRIMITIVE LIFE - man made disaster 7“ (refuse - Straight Edge vegan hardcore from Berlin known for their energetic live shows. Part of the current wave of German hardcore being influenced by a faster early 80s New York style.) 5.00

SUTEKH HEXEN / BLSPHM - Split 7“ (sentinent - No introduction needed for these two sorcerers of sublime ritualistic cacophony. A smoldering chasm of aural disembodiment brought to you by two of America's finest black-noise desecrators. Standard edition purple vinyl or limited edition black vinyl available in extremely small quantities. Black heavy cardstock flap, letterpressed one by one by hand with silver inks by Demian Johnston himself. The limited black vinyl comes with a letterpressed OBI strip. The Layout was designed by Kevin of Sutekh Hexen from source imagery drawn by surreal horror art luminary Stephen Wilson. Digital download included with the purchase of physical copies.) 10.00

LP

ALTARAGE - endinghent LP (seasons of mist - ALTARAGE deliver exactly what the underground buzz around them promised. Their second full-length, 'Endinghent' is bristling with black and dissonant death metal fury that immediately evokes a plethora of sinister images in the brain. Their relentless soul-crushing sound is sending the scared mind on overdrive. After a successful first album last year, ALTARAGE return to mercilessly drag you into an abyss of nightmares and twisted meanings. 'Endinghent', in their own words, calls the doom inhabitants to reach a whole nothing. Welcome to this new dimension of sonic darkness.) 20.00

AMATEUR CHILDBIRTH - Your Afterlife Is Cancelled LP (blackest ever black -

ANCST / KING APATHY - split LP (alerta - plit LP from Berlin based blackened crust collective ANCST and KING APATHY (formerly known as THRÄNENKIND). With these new songs ANCST is heading out into much more melodic territories while still featuring the aggression of former releases. This split delivers 2 new songs of bastard sound black metal / hardcore crossover that takes no prisoners. KING APATHY contribute 2 new songs with opressive atmosphere instead of blazing speed or brutality. KING APATHY change effortlessly between melodic metal, post black metal, crust, post rock and hardcore punk without putting obvious priorities or rather core areas. The focus - still - lies on creating a sound of melancholy as well as lasting impressions.) 13.00

BULLY - Losing LP (sub pop - While Bully’s 2013 debut Feels Like tumbled headlong into the precarious nature of Alicia Bognanno’s young adult life, its follow-up Losing is their first for Sub Pop (which in many ways feels like their spiritual home; Bully’s sound is an outgrowth of the bands the label championed in the late ‘80s and ‘90s). Losing is a document of the complexity of growth: navigating breakups with sensitivity, learning not to flee from your troubles but to face them down no matter how messy they may be (“Well, this isn’t the summer I wanted,” she muses on “Blame,” before admitting that she’s trying to “cut down on booze and you”). Written as the group slowed down from touring constantly and Bognanno attempted to adjust to how different a home schedule is from a road schedule, her songwriting has matured from the quick one-two punches of Feels Like to tracks that contemplate the necessity of space in both song structure and emotion. Bognanno’s gruff yet dynamic voice is allowed to bloom, and it has a tenderness and openness to it here that’s new. There are multiple layers of wistfulness and care to her delivery of lines like “It just takes one disagreement for you to remember the one time I fucked up,” from “Spiral,” turning songs that could be one-dimensional kiss-offs into warm and complex expressions of regret. The group returned to Electrical Audio in Chicago, another home for Bognanno, to record Losing. Their core—Bognanno, guitarist Clayton Parker and bassist Reece Lazarus—truly solidified during the process, a detail-oriented push for perfection in which each moving part was labored over and polished. Emily Lazar’s mastering adds the perfect cap to Bognanno’s engineering; this is a record that has both shimmer and heft. There’s power in the guitar attack, delicacy and toughness in the melodic hooks, precision in the drums, and backbone in the bass.  While Bognanno wouldn’t call this a political record, she doesn’t deny that the current political atmosphere and its urgency and tension haven’t shaped some of her ideas on this record, too—though she does not want that to be its focus. Mostly, this is an internal record, a universalized diary and an exorcism—not of any one specific demon, but of the host of them that characterize contemporary anxieties. Bully are growing up, sure, but their fire is in no way diminishing.) 18.00

CARLA DAL FORNO - The Garden LP (blackest ever - n EP from Carla dal Forno containing four new, obliquely confessional dispatches from the edge zones of feeling. It marks both a refinement of the dub-damaged, inward-looking bedsit pop essayed on her 2016 debut album You Know What It’s Like, and an evolutionary leap. While there is warmth and intimacy to come, The Garden opens with a cold hard stare: ‘We Shouldn’t Have To Wait’, an unexpectedly confrontational companion piece, or response, to her own ‘Fast Moving Cars’. This is not a dazed reverie, but forceful, fatalistic, void-chasing drone-rock led by a stalking, venus-in-furs bassline that levels everything in its path. No longer gazing from afar at fast moving cars, but behind the wheel of one, driving pretty recklessly. No particular destination in mind, but impatient to get there. ) 15.00

ESMERINE - Mechanics Of Dominion LP (Esmerine is the modern chamber ensemble co-founded by former Silver Mt. Zionmember Rebecca Foon and Godspeed You! Black Emperor alumnus Bruce Cawdron in the early 2000s, composing two beloved albums of post-rock based around cello and mallet instruments on Madrona Records in 2003 and 2005. The group emerged from a semi-hiatus in 2010 and have made four acclaimed full-length records of uniquely emotive, lyrical, exploratory instrumental music since then (all released by Constellation) – each marked by a distinct collaborative and thematic agenda. Following the Turkish/near-Eastern exchange featured on Dalmak (2014 Juno winner for Instrumental Album Of The Year) and the intense, rock-inflected Lost Voices (2016 Juno winner for Album Package Of The Year and finalist for Instrumental Album), Esmerine embarked on a soundtrack commission for the National Film Board documentary "Freelancer on the Front Lines" (about independent journalism in the Middle East), which also led to a deep dive into archival and previously unreleased recordings from the band's aforementioned early years. Sessions for the film soundtrack kept rolling organically throughout 2016-2017 (alongside Foon's own work on her Saltland solo project, whose second album came out in March 2017), informed by anxiety over the reactionary, regressive, seemingly irresolvable disharmony of human oppression/domination, falsifying propaganda and ever-accelerating degradation and denial of nature and social justice.) 24.00

F INGERS - Awkwardly Blissing Out LP (blackest ever black - Awkwardly Blissing Out: the second LP from F ingers. Recorded in Melbourne and Berlin 2015-17 by Samuel Karmel, Carla dal Forno and Tarquin Manek, its title is instructive…the spiky eldritch song-spells of previous album Hide Before Dinner have become more dubwise, immersive and potently psychedelic. Euphoric even, but paranoid and laden with self-doubt. Projecting onto strangers, watching not participating, turning ever inwards. The cosmos explored from behind closed doors, under the bedclothes, alone. Whereas Hide evoked the thrill, and casual cruelty, of unsupervised childhood summers – a suburban gothic of grazed knees, hide-and-seek, nettle-stings – this is an album of more adult anxieties and metamorphoses. The ghouls in your neighbour’s garden are still there, but they’ve come to represent something else. Something more mundane and empirically real but no less terrifying. Struggles with time, distance, isolation, communication, commitment. Your memories have a heaviness now. You can hear aspects of ferric post-punk and hauntological/DIY electronics in Awkwardly‘s musical make-up… Flying Lizards’ Secret Dub Life or Brigitte Fontaine’s Comme a la Radio…not to mention two generations of Oz/NZ...  more) 17.00

THEE HEADCOATEES - punk girls LP (damaged goods - ONG OUT OF PRINT 1997 LP (ORIGINALLY ON SYMPATHY FOR THE RECORD INDUSTRY) - ON VINYL ONCE AGAIN! Thee Headcoatees 'Punk Girls' reissued after 20 years, it's one of their best and meanest records. The opener, "Punk Girl," is Kyra at her most defiant. She's had people walk all over her and abuse her and she's not taking shit from anyone anymore. She's out for blood and it shows. Ludella is equally spiteful on "Don't Wanna Hold Your Hand“. This is really a great angry album. Best version of "Teenage Kicks" after the original.) 18.00

ISRATHOUM - Black Poison and Shared Wounds LP (The trio of Arvath, VxInfr and W.uR delivers a devastating blow with this crushing recording! Three years after "Monument of Brimstone", ISRATHOUM is back, venomous and corrupt. An attack against all. A rebellious hymn of the possessed. Violently revolting mass of poisonous black hatred.... Black Metal refined to perfection.) 15.00

ISRATHOUM - Antru Kald LP (Three years after the fantastic "Black Poison and Shared Wounds" ISRATHOUM returns! The trio of VxInfr, Arvath and W.uR delivers a wicked and poisonous audial assault with a new MLP record, entitled "Antru Kald". Originally started as a conceptual project as far back as 1998, it is only now - 17 years later - revealed and unleashed upon mankind. It represents all that defines ISRATHOUM: it adheres to the roots, but doesn't let itself be entangled in the vines, instead developing and evolving upon them into a formation, that is unlike anything else in the scene. This conceptual piece was recorded over several years, with help from Mories of black industrial movement GNAW THEIR TONGUES, who is also responsible for the cover art. The mastering was once again done by Kark of DØDSENGEL. ) 14.00

JABU - sleep heavy LP (blackest ever black - Blackest Ever Black presents Sleep Heavy, the debut album of broken-hearted, downtempo R&B/street-soul and supremely atmospheric, introspective electronics from Jabu: a trio comprised of vocalist/lyricists Alex Rendall and Jasmine Butt, and producer Amos Childs.  The group was born out of Bristol’s Young Echo collective: an ecosystem unto itself which has birthed and nurtured a number of other notable soundsystem-rooted projects and artists to date including Kahn & Neek, Sam Kidel, Ishan Sound, Ossia, Asda, chester giles (the title Sleep Heavy comes from a giles poem) and Killing Sound (Childs with Kidel and Vessel). Jabu’s previous 7” singles, though arresting, barely hinted at the level of accomplishment and emotional heft that Sleep Heavy delivers. It’s a future Bristol classic with a universal resonance, with songs that are highly personal but deeply relatable, and tripped-out, time-dissolving sound design that both haunts and consoles. It is, first and foremost, a meditation on grief, on loss, making sense of separation and death; but it also looks forward to what might come after the aftermath: healing, acceptance, the chance to begin again. ) 18.00

JOHN CARPENTER - Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 LP + 7" (col. Vinyl) (sacred bobes - John Carpenter is a legend. As the director and composer behind dozens of classic movies, Carpenter has established a reputation as one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of modern cinema, as well as one of its most influential musicians. The minimal, synthesizer-driven themes to films like Halloween, Escape From New York, and Assault on Precinct 13 are as indelible as their images, and their timelessness was evident as Carpenter performed them live in a string of internationally sold-out concert dates in 2016. Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 collects 13 classic themes from Carpenter’s illustrious career together on one volume for the first time. Each theme has been newly recorded with the same collaborators that Carpenter worked with on his hit Lost Themes studio albums: his son, Cody Carpenter, and godson, Daniel Davies.) 23.00

LEBENDEN TOTEN - Static 12" (iron lung - back in stocK LEBENDEN TOTEN is one of the greatest punk bands to ever exist and this 12min one song e.p. proves the they can still do no wrong. When we asked them if they wanted to "get weird" with a single they, albeit very slowly, jumped at the idea. We had no idea what we were in for. It blows the mind all the way open. How do they keep getting better? "Static" is a perfectly wild and superbly crafted sheet of chaotic noise with a pounding goth backbone all jacked up on Hawkwind freakout space jams. Just try and imagine what that sounds like. America's best band. Cut and paste artwork with heavy subconscious symbology laced in printed on heavy duty old world 12" single style top loading sleeves house a Chanel etched 12" single mostly on black vinyl. There may be a couple migraines in there.) 13.00

LEBENDEN TOTEN - Mind Parasites LP (overthrow - New release by the noisiest band in the world! Hailing from Portland and featuring members and former members of ATROCIOUS MADNESS, BELLICOSE MINDS, HELLSHOCK, THE ESTRANGED and WARCRY, this masterpiece of eardamaging distorted and reverbered noise will make your turntables bleed. Get it before it's too late!) 17.00

MAXIMUM JOY - I Can't Stand It Here On Quiet Nights: Singles 1981-82 DLP (“Maximum Joy is an aspiration, a claim to passion. To call a band 'Maximum Joy' is to ask a huge question - what is the very best you ever felt or hope to feel and more importantly how far can you take it?” Silent Street is a new collaborative label from Chris Farrell (Idle Hands) and Kiran Sande (Blackest Ever Black). For our first release we’re proud to present I Can’t Stand It Here On Quiet Nights, a compilation of singles by one of our shared musical lodestars; Bristol’s extraordinary Maximum Joy.  As a name, Maximum Joy couldn’t be more apt: theirs is music of uncommon passion, a giddy celebration of music and of life itself (is there a difference?). With a youthful confidence and energy that leaps out at you even now, they took their diverse influences - punk, modern jazz, disco, dub, funk, soul, early hip-hop, Afrobeat and chansons - and distilled them into what is, we don’t mind saying, some of the greatest, most intoxicating pop music ever made.  The band was formed in1980, by 18 year-old photography student and vocalist Janine Rainforth alongside Tony Wrafter, a trumpeter/saxophonist previously affiliated with Glaxo Babies. Wrafter’s former accomplices, Charlie Llewellin (drums) and Dan Catsis (bass), completed the original line-up, alongside erstwhile Pop Group guitarist John Waddington.  Together they carved out a story which today stands as a sumptuous feast for anyone interested in the roots and evolution of the Bristol sound. Along with prior associations with The Pop Group and Glaxo Babies, there are links, back and forth, with The Slits and Dennis Bovell, Adrian Sherwood and On-U Sound, the Berry Street “hole in the ground” studios, and so on, through to the Wild Bunch, Massive Attack, Smith & Mighty, and Tricky’s ‘Aftermath’. I Can’t Stand It Here On Quiet Nights is the first official UK vinyl reissue of Maximum Joy material and will be released on 2x12” vinyl in June 2017, with sleevenotes by Janine Rainforth, Tony Wrafter and Kevin Pearce. We invite you to acquaint, or reacquaint, yourself with the eclectic, exhilarating work of Bristol’s finest, brightest pop idealists. ) 23.00

MYTERI - s/t LP (altera - Repress of the first lp by MYTERI from Sweden.  "Myteri from Gothenburg, Sweden, play epic, soaring and heavy as fuck crust punk that will make you wanna raise your fist to the sky, get into your riot gear and start a full blown fucking riot. Myteri’s music evokes apocalyptic landscapes, torn apart by war, plague, misery, and famine, but their songs are not completely devoid of all hope. There is a shining light in this band’s music that seems to be almost incendiary, like a torch for survival. The last light of hope left in a world otherwise plunged into shadows. The only light left to find the way out of the misery mankind has pulled upon itself. Survivalism and freedom are huge conceptual elements in epic crust like this, and Myteri seem to really have wanted to emphasize this with their sapient use of epic d-beat gallops, war-torn vocals, and heavy, melodic riffing. Myteri’s debut full-length album is a sprawling and unforgiving opera of darkened heavy punk that draws much influence from legendary crust bands like Amebix, Antisect, Anticimex and Totalitar, and from head-on collision-like d-beat bands like Wolfpack, Doom and Disfear. But the real genetics of the band lie mostly in epic Spanish crust like Cop On Fire, Ictus, Ekkaia, and emo-crust in the vein of Remains of the Day etc., where the punk assault can be real, incumbent and heavy as fuck, but eerie melodies mostly coming from the guitars can also make the songs more luminous and atmospheric. In any case, this is a prime example of amazing melodic heavy crust – if you like Tragedy, this shit will clamp on to your soul and not let you go ever again." CVLT Nation) 12.00

RAINFOREST SPIRITUAL ENSLAVEMENT - Ambient Black Magic DLP + 10“ (hospital - New album from Dominick Fernow’s most intriguing alias with "Sound on Sound” processing by Silent Servant and a remix from Substance (Chain Reaction). A huge recommendation if you're into Vainqueur, Huerco S, Talk Talk, Carl Craig, Rhythm & Sound… Following a still-ongoing series of reissues of the earliest, previously tape-only releases from Dominick Fernow’s Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement, this long-in-the-making new album proper is an epic 80 minute set featuring additional production from Silent Servant, a remix from Substance and some of the deadliest subs we've heard in an age.) 35.00

SPECTRAL WOUND - Terra Nullius LP (mysterion - anadian black metal, debut album now released on vinyl (in co-operation with Arcane Angels). Not far from the 90’s / early 00’s Norwegian / Finnish tradition yet sounds crushingly heavy, fresh and inspired. Pure negativism through controlled, contemplative aggression and black nostalgia.) 14.00

STACIAN - Person L LP (night school - STACIAN is Person L is Oakland resident, solo artist and academic Dania Luck. Beginning in the American Mid West, Stacian has been an ongoing Bay Area concern since 2008, deeply involved in the minimal wave and underground electronic music scene. A dystopian vision of alienated humanity, broken communications and technoid mal-forms, Person L is her most fully developed full length and a leap forward from 2012’s Songs For Cadets. Moving away from the primitive Cold Wave of previous work, Person L manages to create a bleak dystopia without relying on Ballardian cliche, though still invoking concrete prisons and urban disassociation. Person L is a throbbing, murky underworld that revels in imperfections, a submersive, digital swamp bleeding through the club. ) 18.00

V/A - EVEN A TREE CAN SHED TEARS: JAPANES DLP (light in the attic - There was something in the air in the urban corners of late ‘60s Japan. Student protests and a rising youth culture gave way to the angura (short for “underground) movement that thrived on subverting traditions of the post-war years. Rejection of the Beatlemania-inspired Group Sounds and the squeaky clean College Folk movements led the rise of what came to be known in Japan as “New Music,” where authenticity mattered more than replicating the sounds of their idols. Some of the most influential figures in Japanese pop music emerged from this vital period, yet very little of their work has ever been released or heard outside of Japan, until now. Light In The Attic is thrilled to present „Even a Tree Can Shed Tears“, the inaugural release in the label’s Japan Archival Series. This is the first-ever, fully licensed collection of essential Japanese folk and rock songs from the peak years of the angura movement to reach Western audiences. In mid-to-late 1960s Tokyo, young musicians and college students were drawn to Shibuya’s Dogenzaka district for the jazz and rock kissas, or cafes, that dotted its winding hilly streets. Some of these spaces doubled as performance venues, providing a stage for local regulars like Hachimitsu Pie with their The Band-like ragged Americana, Tetsuo Saito with his spacey philosophical folk, and the influential Happy End, who successfully married the unique cadences of the Japanese language to the rhythms of the American West Coast. For many years Dogenzaka remained a center of the city’s “New Music” scene.) 40.00

V/A - Lasst Die Alten Sterben LP (swiss punk - On vinyl, this is the punk soundtrack to Juri Steinhart's 2017 movie 'Lasst Die Alten Sterben', a Swiss tragicomedy about late-'70s/early-'80s youth gasping for air in a cotton-candy world. A generation seeking a reason for its malaise and a way to shed the boredom, only to discover, mostly, its own emptiness. The LP comes in a gatefold cover with a 16-page fanzine and a movie poster.) 23.00

ISKANDR - Zon CD (“Zon” is the perfect companion to “Heilig Land” full length, this time being more distinct in its form yet equally cryptic and evocative. Addictively monotonous, desperate yet triumphant.) 8.00

ISKANDR - heilig land CD (Initially released as a cassette in a very limited run and quickly sold out, Heilig Land is now released on CD & LP. While stepping into archetypical black metal patterns ISKANDR offer an extremely intense and imaginative approach, combining fiery tones with painful melodies, an inconvenient yet warm sound, a mesmerizing repetition ,all leading to the esoteric manifestation that Heilig Land is :”An ongoing reflection on personal surroundings; connections between places and memories. An introspective journey of which this chapter is but a first step”) 10.00
