LP

BEIRUT - gallipolli LP (4 AD - Zach Condon aka Beirut celebrates the 11th anniversary of not using the farfisa organ he used to write his first two albums by dragging it wheezing out of retirement to help get things back on track after the so so so No No No. After breaking his arm (no explanation given), he spent an intense month in a semi-isolated studio writing this his fifth album which the press release describes as unintentionally more visceral than the last two. So there. ) 23.00

BOY HARSHER - Careful LP (nude - Massachusetts darkwave duo Boy Harsher return with a brand new album entitled Careful on the band's own Nude Club imprint. Boy Harsher's second full-length album, Careful, further develops the band's brooding dance style, set up in their previous EP Country Girl. The ten songs, spanning forty-four minutes, contain eerie narrative soundscapes that are bracing, high tempo and dynamic. The album delivers manifold emotions, from the nostalgic yearning of "LA" to the gripping intensity of "Come Closer." The nervousness of Augustus Muller's bent, out of tune synths paired with the lush and sometimes brittle vocals of Jae Matthews, delivers an unsettled, yet fulfilling encounter with Boy Harsher. Careful summons a new spirit for the young band - that of growth and desire.) 20.00

BREMEN - enter silence LP /blackest ever black - ollowing a trio of sprawling, planet-gargling double-LPs, 2013's self-titled LP on Skrammel, and Second Launch (2015) and Eclipsed (2017) on Blackest Ever Black, Bremen - J. Tiljander and Lanchy, previously best known for their contributions to Brainbombs' long rapsheet of genius-and-brutality, but latterly exponents of a rarefied cosmic melancholy - return with Enter Silence, their most concise, and powerful, album to date. Once again the Uppsala multi-instrumentalists combine elements of trogged-out psychedelic rock with a deadly serious Arctic minimalism and weeping modal improvisations that owe more to the outer limits of jazz and burnt-out free music from Japan. It's connoisseur's space music, grown-up and grievously honed; outwardly inclined towards the epic but studded with details that reward attention and introspection. There's always been a strong undercurrent of sadness animating Bremen's work, and that existential burden is present and correct on Enter Silence, culminating in the all-out cosmic anguish of 'Palladium'. Even 'The Middle Section', whose ragged chords are nothing if not the sound of optimism and defiance, sounds like it's navigating some kind of unsayable trauma. But this band has always allowed plenty of room for bonehead slash-and-burn as well: see here especially the Stoogeian/39 Clocks-ish rock'n'roll of 'Aimless Cruising' and the pulpy quasi-cinematic tension of 'Sinister', or the brilliant 'Too Cold For Your Eyes', a blast of voidal motorik that sounds like a cranked-up Clean. It's a cold, cold world out there) 20.00

CASPAR BRÖTZMANN MASSAKER - Black Axis DLP (soutehrn lord - Caspar Brötzmann Massaker’s masterful second album from 1989 – remastered. The power trio’s blunt force execution is directed by Brötzmann’s explosive and exquisite six string conjuration. Channeling Hendrixian vibrations mixed with hard German industrial atmosphere.) 25.00

CASPAR BRÖTZMANN MASSAKER - The Tribe LP (southern lord - Caspar Brötzmann Massaker’s masterful debut album from 1988 – remastered. The power trio’s blunt force execution is directed by Brötzmann’s explosive and exquisite six string conjuration. Channeling Hendrixian vibrations mixed with hard German industrial atmosphere) 17.00

EARTHEATER - IRISIRI LP (PAN - restock -Eartheater (aka Queens based artist Alexandra Drewchin) distills foley-filled digital production, a three-octave vocal range, and classical composition into works suspended between obsessively detailed sonic tapestries and almost recklessly romantic and gestural electronica. A body of viscerally emotive live performance stands alongside her recorded output, realized by her fearless physical investment and gut-wrenching vocal sincerity. IRISIRI, Eartheater's third full-length record, lays out a shifting network of abstract song craft, laced with sudden structural upheavals and collisions of mutated tropes from numerous sonic vocabularies. Modular synth staccato plucks hammer out in arrhythmic spirals over a carefully muzzled grid of pumping kicks - unleashed in unpredictable disruptions.  Technoid stabs mingle with crushed black metal. An icy OS reads poetry against a bed of granular synth swells.  Drewchin's sirening whistle-tone vocals drape over relentless harp arpeggios. Eartheater confounds expectations of structure and resolution before deciding to thread in a sugary melody that snaps us back into some conception, however hazy, of pop songwriting. Guest spots on  IRISIRI charge Drewchin's ideas with concordant energies, from the stark imagist poetry of Odwalla1221 on Inhale Baby, to the sheer lacerating force of Moor Mother's unflinching verse on MMXXX. Drewchin's lyrics, strewn with flourishes of wordplay and symbolism, explore themes of her autodidactic experience - playing with the tutelage of the 'pupil' within the 'iris' mirrored in the palindrome  IRISIRI. One motif appears as a song name,  C.L.I.T., which Drewchin breaks down into "Curiosity Liberates Infinite Truth." The acronym stands as a microcosm of the Eartheater project in its holistic combination of idiosyncratic spirituality and cheekiness, presented with an earnest confidence that some could consider confrontational. In spite of this lexicon's maximal effect, it comes from a very personal place as she states, “curiosity has had to be the currency of my education". On OS In Vitro, she reminds us that "These tits are just a side-effect," and "You can't compute her," as if to acknowledge the clouding effect of sexuality and technology in the face of a higher self-significance. In the record's accompanying video piece, Claustra,  she slides between "the owning of my loneliness" and "the end of the loaning of my onliness”, encapsulating images of self-purifying isolation and the rejection of artistic exploitation with the flip of two syllables. The transmuting landscape of IRISIRI is riddled with evocative poetry and evidence of Drewchin's development as an artist since her debut in 2015. Drewchin performs and collaborates with art duo and close friends FLUCT. In February 2017, she starred in Raul de Nieves and Colin Self's opera The Fool at the Kitchen. In April 2017, featured on two tracks from Show Me The Body's  Corpus I mixtape alongside  Denzel Curry  and Moor Mother. She's currently composing work for the contemporary chamber orchestra,  Alarm Will Sound, that will debut in May 2018. Her new live set sees her accompanied by the concert harpist Marilu Donivan. The release is mastered by Rashad Becker at D&M, featuring photography by Elise Gallant.) 23.00

EIJI NAKAYAMA - aya's samba LP (studio mule - Brilliant debut album from Eiji Nakayama, reissued 41 years since its original release, thanks to Studio Mule. 'Aya's Samba' has reached cult status over the years, and rightly so. Top level Japanese jazz. Originals go for an eye-watering amount so get this instead.) 27.00

ESBEN AND THE WITCH - nowhere LP (season of - Berlin/UK-based three-piece ESBEN AND THE WITCH deliver their fifth album, 'Nowhere'. With haunting, tranquil passages, a primal fierceness expressed in punk-influenced, distorted riffs and the alluring voice of vocalist Rachel Davies, the extremities of beauty, noise and power have never matched so well before.) 20.00

FORN - Rites of Despair 2LP (gilead - Their first proper full-length after a series of EPs and singles, Rites of Despair is the resulting vision of two years' worth of tumult, including relocations, lineup changes, life and death. Divided between two Acts, Act I: Depersonalization & Act II: Derealization, Rites of Despair explores themes of isolation, depression, decay, tumultuous self discovery, and abandonment. On this album Fórn galvanize themselves as one of North America's leading purveyors of absolutely miserable, sludging funeral doom. Tracking and engineering was completed by both Alec Rodriguez at New Alliance in Cambridge, MA, as well as Andrew Oswald at Secret Bathroom in Oakland, CA. Mastering completed by Magnus Lindberg of Cult of Luna.  As has become tradition, Rites of Despair contains artwork from the vision of Bryan Proteau, who has worked with Fórn on imagery for all of their solo releases to date.) 30.00

INEXORUM - Lore of the Lakes LP (gilead - Started in 2017 as the solo project of Carl Skildum (Antiverse, Threadbare, live guitarist for Obsequiae, Majesties, and more) and now featuring the RIAA-certified gold producer Matt Kirkwold, Inexorum present their debut album “Lore Of The Lakes”. An ode to the spirit of 90’s black metal, “Lore of the Lakes” sees Skildum and Kirkwold at the height of their musical writing prowess. Melodic guitar harmonies cascade against driving rhythms and capture that same sense of exhilaration and aggression that formative bands such as Dawn, Sacramentum, and more have pioneered in years past. Recorded and mixed at the home of Skildum in Minnesota, “Lore of the Lakes” is an album that deals with the ebbs and flows of perseverance, even in the face of inevitable loss. “Our time is finite,” Skildum says, “but each of us has the power to reshape the world in small but meaningful ways.” A deeply personal record, “Lore of the Lakes” is destined to be one of 2018’s most compelling and sonically evocative albums.) 25.00

OBJEKT - Cocoon Crush DLP (PAN - PAN welcomes back Objekt for Cocoon Crush, his first LP since 2014’s Flatland. Over the past four years Objekt has continued to challenge conventions with his club output (the Objekt #4 single release and the Kern Vol. 3 mix CD for Tresor), while maintaining his reputation as a DJ who deploys impeccable technical finesse in crafting elaborate narratives from a diverse and challenging palette of electronic music. Written between 2014 and 2018 in Berlin and on the road, Cocoon Crush once again sees the producer jettisoning the functional requirements of the dancefloor. Marking a further evolution from the youthful exuberance of Flatland, Cocoon Crush explores a more introspective side, with themes of human interaction resonating throughout the record as it ruminates on a spectrum of complex moods rooted in 4 years of sometimes turbulent personal experience. Cocoon Crush represents an aesthetic departure from Flatland’s largely synthetic tonality, drawing from organic source material and natural textures to illustrate perplexing and unfamiliar sceneries in photorealistic detail. In Cocoon Crush, Objekt diverges further still from his musical influences to craft the purest manifestation of his own musical personality to date: an intriguing and enigmatic album whose reference points are hard to pin down, in which ghostly synth passages weave through mind-bending, weighty drums, and ASMR-triggering foley collages scrape and sparkle. Through meticulous sculpting, Objekt traces a rich and impressionistic journey through claustrophobia, hope, guilt, anxiety and joy, nested in layers of sonic detail which reward with every listen.  The album is mastered by Rashad Becker, featuring photography by Kasia Zacharko, and layout by Bill Kouligas.) 26.00

ORPHAN ANN - The Practice Of Surrender LP (moloton - ltd to 200 - For Moloton’s ninth outing, they're welcoming Orphan Ann with their debut LP ‘The Practice of Surrender’. The duo, consisting of DIY veteran Anja Enerud (Masskultur collective) and Sofia Al Rammal Sturdza (SARS, Född Död) burst onto the scene with their pitch-black take on synth music, combining sharp, penetrating vocal chants with atonal drones and haunting drum machine patterns. Orphan Ann has previously released their music on the Danish label Posh Isolation, where they contributed with four tracks to the ‘You And Me Now’ cassette compilation. They have been performing their live show at various stages around the world, including MUTEK in Mexico City and Norbergfestival in Sweden.) 20.00

PORTRAYAL OF GUILT - Let Pain Be Your Guide LP (GILEAD - Portrayal Of Guilt delivers their uncompromising debut full-length, "Let Pain Be Your Guide." "Let Pain Be Your Guide" was recorded in a basement over the course of 48 hours with Matt Michel (Majority Rule, NO MAN) in Dunn Loring, VA, and features guest vocals from Matt Michel, Dylan Walker (Full Of Hell), and Maha Shami (NO MAN). Unhinged yet masterful, "Let Pain Be Your Guide" will be one of the outstanding pieces amongst heavy music in 2019 and sees the band honing in on something truly unique. LP includes digital download.) 23.00

STEVEN STAPLETON AND DAVID TIBET - The Threats Of Memories DLP (Leaders of England’s hidden reverse, Stapleton and Tibet, compile four visionary highlights of their collaborations between 1991-1998, including a previously unreleased outtake of their ‘Musical Pumpkin Cottage’ album First available at their NWW and Current 93 concert in London, late 2018, ‘The Threats of Memories’ unfolds across the minds-eye with all the lysergic quality that one may hope for. Ancient acolytes and wide-eyed ambient lambs alike will be enchanted by the unfathomable spatial dimensions and lurking intimacy on offer, all newly remastered and rendered on vinyl to thee most exacting standards, bringing anyone in earshot within touching distance of the duo’s original vision.  In the A-side ‘The Sadness of Things’ (1991) we can feel the spectral touch of Colin Potter applied to slow, curling strings, shivering hi-hat and stereo-strafing apparitions, bookended by haunting vox from Joolie Wood and Ruby Wallis at the front and David Tibet in the rear. ‘The Dead Side of The Moon’ features many more hands on deck to explore a proper sort of mountainside kosmiche revelation alongside ‘Bubblehead’, which maintains a motorik trajectory into more possessed, end-of-trip tremors that also leads down the Craig Leon-esque wormhole of ‘DreamBreath’, a previously unreleased ace of heavy breathing loops and chromatic chronics laced with Stapleton recalling a lysergic daytrip.) 32.00

TOADLIQUOR - Cease & Decease DLP (southern lord - Cease & Decease, a double-LP discography by oppressive sludge juggernaut, TOADLIQUOR, released as part of Southern Lord’s 20th Anniversary series. The mysterious TOADLIQUOR continues to hold its position as one of the most crushing sludge outfits from the ’90s, while maintaining a shroud of mystery and diehard cult following two decades later. Not only does the collection encapsulate the entire 1993-released Feel My Hate – The Power Is The Weight – R.I.P. Cain LP as well as some unearthed extremely scarce and previously-unreleased recordings, it also includes a newly recorded song that was especially prepared, written and documented for this release. Cease & Decease also marks the first time the band’s entire four-part “Inter-Stellar Space” opus is pressed together; the first three sections were found on different releases, and the closing section had never been recorded before now. Several of the initial recordings were originally recorded by Tim Green (The Fucking Champs, The Nation of Ulysses) and some of the resurrected tracks on Cease & Decease have here been remastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Housed in a deluxe gatefold Stoughton sleeve which includes existing as well as brand new artwork, Cease & Decease is pressed on two massive slabs of vinyl, with a full black pressing and a limited silver pressing strictly exclusive for the label’s subscription series. Cvlt Nation is now streaming the newly-recorded and previously unreleased “(Closing Sections Of) Inter-Stellar Space,” stating of the track, “TOADLIQUOR were all about creating timeless fucking doom laced with crust. The vocals from this band sound like tortured mental patients screaming to be heard. TOADLIQUOR had the whole Sabbath riff thing, but flipped it with more distorted vibe, plus their sound had an undertone of sinister and brutal crust… To say that it’s an honor to share this with you is a HUGE understatement.”) 25.00

V/A - Rekordfahrt Negativ - Folge 2 LP (kermkrach - LP: Ltd. to 350 copies, transparent vinyl, random color silk-screen artwork, incl. booklet & black rubber glove - Rekordfahrt Negativ - Folge 2 is a compilation of minimal wave and 80ies synth tracks compiled by FKK Schallplatten [Förderung Kosmischer Kunst]) 25.00

XIU XIU - Girl With Basket Of Fruit LP (altin village - Xiu Xiu's new album called "Girl with Basket of Fruit" is coming out via Altin Village & Mine in Europe. "Girl with Basket of Fruit" is imbued with the agitation, tension, sorrow and anger that has permeated the daily lives of so many over the last few years. It was produced by Xiu Xiu's Angela Seo and Greg Saunier of Deerhoof. Xiu Xiu is Thor Harris, Jordan Geiger, Angela Seo, and Jamie »Butch Jenny« Stewart.) 18.00

TAPES

POWER TRIP - Nightmare Logic TAPE (southenr lord -  "Nightmare Logic" is the second crushing, soul mangling, neck bustin' album from Texas hardcore thrashers Power Trip, recorded by Arthur Rizk (Inquisition), mastered by Joel Grind (Poison Idea, Toxic Holocaust) and features cover art by Paolo Girardi. Power Trip is a real band like no other. Their raw energy, musical proficiency, perfect song structure, rich tones, fierce riffs, persecution and collective attitude have seeded them as one of the most prolific underground staples in the US metal, punk and hardcore scenes. Power Trip has relentlessly toured the world for years with the likes of Anthrax, Lamb Of God, Cro-Mags, Negative Approach, Turnstile, Backtrack, Eyehategod, Bane, OFF! and more, and has performed with countless others, in addition to pummeling audiences at major festivals all over the USA, Europe and beyond.) 10.00

SLEEP - dopesmoker TAPE (southern lord - It is with an immense amount of pride that we bring you a mighty offering from the gods known as Sleep! In 2011, Southern Lord was contacted by Sleeps' Al Cisneros about the possibility of releasing a deluxe version of the classic Sleep recording: Dopesmoker. Cisneros wanted to breathe some new life into the old beast and finally have the original vision of the album fully realized. Southern Lord was overwhelmingly ecstatic about the challenge of taking the reigns of one of the most important recordings in the history of Heavy Metal! The Lord version features brand new artwork by long time Sleep artist, Arik Roper, who created something specifically special for the albums' rebirth. The biggest difference between this new version and the old releases is the phenomenal remastering job by From Ashes Rise guitarist, Brad Boatright (OFF!, Noothgrush, Deviated Instinct). His vision was to enhance the original recording without changing it drastically. What he has done makes this epic opus sound invigorated, more powerful with renewed clarity and all-around unbelievably mammoth. His work was enthusiastically approved by the band and considering how focused, vigilant and protective of their masterpiece the band is, that is nothing short of a miracle!) 10.00

LP

BOB MOULD - Sunshine Rock LP (merge - The cliché circulated after the 2016 election foretold a new artistic golden age: Artists would transform their anger and anxiety into era-defining works of dissent in the face of authoritarianism. Yet BOB MOULD calls his new album Sunshine Rock. It’s not because Mould likes the current administration. His decision comes from a more personal place—found in Berlin, Germany. “Four years ago, I made plans for an extended break,” Mould explains. “I started spending time in Berlin in 2015, found an apartment in 2016, and became a resident in 2017. My time in Berlin has been a life changing experience. The winter days are long and dark, but when the sun comes back, all spirits lift.” Three years in Berlin would quite literally shed new light on Mould’s everyday mindset. This being Bob Mould, Sunshine Rock still has darker moments. “Lost Faith,” for example, has him quietly lamenting, “I’ve lost faith in everything.” The Mould of 1990 may have wallowed in the feeling, but the Mould of 2018 jumps into a hooky, bombastic chorus where he sings, “Really gotta stop this now, this is your / Last chance to turn around, I know we / All lose faith from time to time, you / Better find your way back home.” Those cathartic moments in “Lost Faith” foreground a surprising element of Sunshine Rock: Mould’s rawest vocals since his throat-shredding days in HUSKER DU.) 20.00

BUBBHA THOMAS & THE LIGHTMEN - Creative Music: The Complete Works 8xLP (now again - Revolutionary, spiritual jazz bandleader, drummer, and activist from Houston. This is the definitive box set of his four classic albums with his Lightmen band, each mastered from the original tapes, expanded with bonus tracks and alternate mixes. Bubbha Thomas had toured America with R&B revues, served as a session musician for Peacock and Back Beat Records, and played straight ahead jazz with legends before the political and social upheaval of the late 1960s led him to a path first charted by Coltrane. His first set of self-issued albums predated the deep-set, maverick jazz issued by the likes of Tribe and Strata East and were a harbinger of best of the 1970s jazz underground. Over the course of the decade, he contributed to a collective voice of resistance to the musical and cultural status quo that is just beginning to be understood. Each album contains 2LPs and comes with a download card for WAV files, and footage of live performances included. Booklet detailing Thomas and his band’s remarkable trajectory also included in the set.) 110.00

CASS McCOMBS - Tip of the Sphere DLP (epitaph - Cass McCombs has been knocking about for many years now and is one of those artists where two albums don't sound the same. He is continually tweaking and pushing his sound into new territories and on this his 9th album he has recorded the songs in on time and place ensuring that the album is his most consistent statements of intent. ) 25.00

DECADANCE - On and On (Fears Keep On ) 12“ (mannequinn - Mannequin Records presents a new press of Decadance "On And On (Fears Keep On)", one of the most iconic underground Italo-wave track ever. Produced by Franco Rago & Gigi Farina, the masterminds behind cult italo disco projects ‘Lectric Workers, Wanexa, Expansives, Atelier Folie, Peter Richard and many more, the single was originally released in 1983 by Proto Records. Permeated by a dark a eerie synths, a perfectly programmed Roland TR-808 and an outstanding analog production, "On and On (Fears Keep On)" belongs to what we like to define "dark italo disco" or "italo wave". Here's there's an extra touch of cosmic / interstellar feeling, sharing the same feelings (and the same synthetic hardware) of "Spacer Woman". Not a intergalactic travel this time, but the wait for somebody to come from the sky. ) 13.00

ELI KESZLER - Stadium DLP (shelter - back in stock NewYork-based artist Eli Keszler is at the apex of his career. This year alone he’s had a three-month-long solo exhibition (“Blue Skies” at Fuse Arts, Bradford, UK), performed internationally in a duo with Laurel Halo, collaborated with noted Hungarian author La´szlo´ Krasznahorkai, taught experimental composition and performance at Camp in the Pyrenees mountains, composed music for Turner Prize– winning visual artist Laure Prouvost, and most recently embarked on a world tour with Oneohtrix Point Never. “Stadium” is his new album for Shelter Press. As his ninth solo record,“Stadium” reflects his move from South Brooklyn to Manhattan, where he produced the album. The constant blurry motion and ever-changing landscapes of the fast-paced island helped him modify and shape his sound into a new kind of film noir. “After we moved into our East Village apartment,” Keszler explains, “we found a guitar pick on the floor that read ‘Stadium’. We looked at each other at the same time and had the same thought. It could have gone any number of ways.” Indeed, there is a startling amount of expression at play on each track, where intersections of melody, restraint and rhythm are used to challenge the idea of memory, impression and space. Keszler is often mistaken for an electronic musician, but in fact his sounds are raw and natural, produced by hand live in-situ. His performance with the drumset and acoustic percussion are central to his work. He produces almost impossible textures through self-realized methodologies: cascading melodies, a shadow of voices, and a unique pointillistic materiality. Although playing with the intensity of digitally-created music, his communications are done live with no processing. These haptics are what give “Stadium” its depth and its warmth. In a recent interview for Dazed, collaborator Oneohtrix Point Never comments, “I’ve always described his playing as bacterial. He’s able to parallax into very small, very acute, very specific relationships between percussive textures. It’s beyond just being a drummer — he’s a world-building percussionist.”) 30.00

GHEDALIA TAZARTES + MAYA DUNIETZ - Schulevy Maker LP (holotype - Holotype Editions was founded as a means of bringing out music by some of the most unique and peculiar artists of the last decades. What could be more fitting for the imprint's seventh release, than the duo of cult artist Ghédalia Tazartès and multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer Maya Dunietz. Recorded live at Cafe Oto, in December 2013, Schulevy Maker documents the duo's first live appearance. An amalgam of bizarre samples, concrete sounds, live piano and bells, juxtaposed with the otherworldly voices of Dunietz and Tazartès. At times light and humorous, at others dark and ritualistic, Schulevy Maker can hardly be labeled or tagged. The album title refers to Shoemaker-Levy 9, a disrupted comet that collided with Jupiter in July 1994. Tazarte`s and Dunietz freely reassembled the syllables of the comet's name, coming up with this obscure title. A truly life-affirming record, by two artists defying categorization, Schulevy Maker comes in a limited edition of 300 copies, pressed on black vinyl with a beautiful cover designed by We Are Still Bold and Beautiful.) 18.00

JACOB KIRKEGAARD - arc LP (holotype - Holotype Editions presents a new work by acclaimed sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard. Arc was originally commissioned for INMUTE ’14 as a soundtrack to Carl Th. Dreyer’s silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928). In this new edit, running to just under 36 minutes, Kirkegaard’s refined mastery of tone unfolds in two arc-shaped tracks dedicated to the LP format.) 18.00

JOZEF VAN WISSEM & JIM JARMUSH - An Attempt to Draw Aside the Veil LP (sacred bones - Experimental lute player Jozef Van Wissem and acclaimed film director and musician Jim Jarmusch have a working relationship that dates back to 2006, when they ran into each other on the street in New York City and quickly struck up a friendship. Van Wissem contributed to the soundtrack for Jarmusch’s 2013 movie Only Lovers Left Alive, and the two have collaborated on three previous studio albums. An Attempt to Draw Aside the Veil delves into the theology of William Blake and Emanuel Swedenborg, this time also exploring the work of Russian occultist and philosopher Helena Blavatsky. The album is mostly instrumental, so the dialogue between the esoteric thinkers who inspired it and Van Wissem and Jarmusch is expressed in the song titles — fittingly arcane phrases like “Concerning the White Horse,” “The Two Paths,” “When the Sun Rises Do You Not See A Round Disc of Fire.”) 21.00

KEITH HUDSON - pick a dub DLP (vip - A crucial piece of the dub canon, produced way back in 1974 by Keith Hudson. A strong case can be made for Pick a Dub being one of the very first dub works, taking earlier tracks and filtering, echoing and otherwise re-organising them. The sound is sparser than some later dub, allowing each element of the mix to shine. Reissued by VP, with bonus tracks.) 22.00

KNUD VIKTOR - Les Ephémères LP (institut fur - The lost masterpiece Les Éphémères by the self labeled ‘sound painter’ Knud Viktor (1924-2013) now sees its first ever release by Institute for Danish Sound Archaeology – 40 years after it was conceived. Viktor’s pioneering work – his Images Sonores – are composed of field recordings of insects, animals and the his surroundings.) 25.00

LAWRENCE ENGLISH & WERNER DAFELDECKER - Shadow Of The Monolith LP (holotype - ltd to 300 Shadow of the Monolith is the collaboration of acclaimed artists Lawrence English and Werner Dafeldecker. Recorded across the Antarctic Peninsula and produced in Brisbane Australia, Shadow of the Monolith works across aesthetic disciplines exploring electroacoustic transformations of atmospheric, hydrophonic and ionospheric materials. The raw materials have been layered, processed and structured into a record that drifts from dense microscopic cracks to vibrant shifting frequencies, from sections of profound white stillness to storms of intense activity, from intense light to improbable dark and from immersive macro-spaces to non-spaces. Lawrence English is composer, media artist and curator based in Australia. Working across an eclectic array of aesthetic investigations, English’s work prompts questions of field, perception and memory. English utilizes a variety of approaches including live performance and installation to create works that ponder subtle transformations of space and ask audiences to become aware of that which exists at the edge of perception. Werner Dafeldecker’s background is in European modern music and improvisation, examination of graphical notations, Fluxus, minimal music, electro acoustic music, jazz and field recordings. His musical projects are often inspired and deduced by outside influences such as architecture, physics, photography and film. Longtime sound and structure studies and the formulation of distinct articulations are in the center of his work as a composer and musician and are parallel to technological developments often connected with electronic form.) 18.00

MICHAEL CHAPMAN - true north LP (paradise of bachelors - The masterful follow-up to his universally celebrated 2017 album 50, Michael Chapman’s True North finds the elder statesman of British songwriting and guitar plumbing an even deeper deep and honing an ever keener edge to his iconic writing. This authoritative set of predominantly new, and utterly devastating, songs hews to a more intimate sonic signature—more atmospheric, textural, and minimalist than 50, stately and melancholy in equal measure. Recorded in rural West Wales, True North unflinchingly surveys home and horizon, traveling from the Bahamas to Texas to the Leeds of Chapman’s childhood, haunted by the mirages of memory and intimations of mortality. Joining him on this introspective journey is a cast of old friends and new disciples: once again Steve Gunn produces and plays guitar, and fellow UK songwriting hero Bridget St John sings, collaborating with cellist Sarah Smout and legendary pedal steel player BJ Cole, who has accompanied everyone from John Cale to Scott Walker, Elton John to Terry Allen, Felt to Björk to Brian Eno. ) 22.00

POWER TRIP - Opening Fire: 2008-2014 LP (dark operative - To kick off their celebration of 10 years as a band, Dark Operative is proud to present "Opening Fire: 2008-2014," a complete collection of Power Trip's earliest non-LP output. The release documents the self-titled 7", "This World" (from "The Extermination Vol: 2" LP compilation on Flatspot Records), "Hammer Of Doubt" (2010 version from "America's Hardcore" LP compilation on Triple-B Records), and the entirety of "The Armageddon Blues Sessions." All tracks have been lovingly remastered by the band's longtime producer Arthur Rizk, with the release being rounded out by stunning artwork from Portland illustrator Matt Stikker and photography by Angela Owens.) 22.00

REINHOLD FRIEDL - Music For Piano, ... Spring/Flower/Cracker/Stream LP (holotype - Zeitkratzer member Reinhold Friedl revisits the piano guts some years after his much album Inside Piano (2011). While Friedl's first solo album defined the practice of playing on the strings of a grand piano," Music For Piano, ... Spring/Flower/Cracker/Stream" mixes piano with concrete and quasi-electroacoustic, freely moving from moving from plain motifs to walls of noise. A truly beautiful and ear-pleasing record that unashamedly shows the composer's and performer's love for the piano. Reinhold Friedl studied the piano with Renate Werner and Paul Schwarz in Stuttgart, Alexander von Schlippenbach and Alan Marks in Berlin, composition with Mario Bertoncini (nuova consonanza) and Witold Szalonek. He has collaborated with musicians like Phill Niblock, Elliott Sharp, Alvin Lucier, Keiji Haino, Lou Reed, Carsten Nicolai, Laurie Anderson and has released more than hundred CDs. All tracks composed and performed by Reinhold Friedl Recorded at the School of Music of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on the 11 and 12 March 2017 by Yannis Paxevanis Mixed by Yiannis paxevanis and Reinhold Friedl at Subway Studio Mastered by Nikos Lavdas at Kiwi, Athens Cover photo by Reinhold Friedl) 18.00

RUSTIN MAN - drift code LP (domino - oh Talk Talk where art thou? With Mark Hollis last seen in the early 2000s trying to learn the clarinet this most brilliant and influential bands has been on hold. However not all is lost. Bassist Paul Webb aka Rustin Man is back with a new LP. His previous one was in collaboration with Portishead's Beth Gibbons. Here he goes it alone. ) 23.00

SHINICHI ATOBE - butterfly effect DLP (dds - Warm, laid back Dub House / explorative Ambient album *Full-length debut from the elusive Shinichi Atobe, known for an incredible 12' on Chain Reaction almost 15 years ago and never seen or heard from since. Audio mastered and cut by Matt Colton, Vinyl purchases come with a download of the full album plus 4 bonus tracks dropped into your account* Shinichi Atobe has managed to stay off grid since he made an appearance on Basic Channel's Chain Reaction imprint back in 2001. He delivered the second-to-last 12' on the label and then disappeared without a trace, leaving behind a solitary 12' that's been selling for crazy money (theres a copy up on discogs at the moment for $600 - go figure) and a trail of speculation that has led some people to wonder whether the project was in fact the work of someone on the Basic Channel payroll. That killer Chain Reaction 12' has also been a longtime favourite of Demdike Stare, who have been trying to follow the trail and make contact with Atobe for some time, whomever he turned out to be. A lead from the Basic Channel office turned up an address in japan and - unbelievably - an album full of archival and new material that after a lot of hard work has been assembled and compiled by Demdike for this debut album. And what a weird and brilliant album it is - deployed with a slow-churn opener that sounds like a syruppy Actress track, before working through a brilliantly sharp and tactile 9 minute Piano House roller that sounds like DJ Sprinkles at his most bittersweet, before diving headlong into a heady, Vainqueur inspired droneworld. It's a confounding album, full of odd little signatures that give the whole thing a timeless feel that's completely detached from the zeitgeist - like a sound bubble from another era. This is only the second album release on Demdike Stare's DDS imprint following on from Nate Young's 'Regression Vol.3' last year, who knows what they might turn up next.) 25.00

THE STRANGER - Bleaklow DLP (history - 2LP: 2019 Repress, black vinyl, ltd. to 300 copies One of the most destitute and absorbing albums in Leyland Kirby’s canon is finally given a much needed vinyl pressing, following on from its initial CD release 6 years ago. ‘Bleaklow’ is harrowing from the start, the opening “Something To Do With Death” reverberating dread via layers of unstable, radiant drones punctuated with pained, hi- pitched howls that cut through the mix with violent intent. "Solemn Dedication" adds percussion to the mix and sits somewhere between classic John Carpenter and Nate Young, but it’s on ‘Indefinite Ridge’ that things really take a turn towards that eerie, destabilising sound Kirby can do so well, like a standout BoC vignette pounded by the rattle of industrial machinery malfunctioning in the background; it’s at once deeply unsettling and oddly comforting. "A Melody Drags Me Back" recalls the spirit of Kirby’s best known productions as The Caretaker, except in place of those old 78’s you get just the vaguest hint of life and colour beneath the endless layers of sonic unease. The album ends with ‘Ominous Sunset’, an incredible 6 minute coda that’s perhaps best compared to Kirby’s ‘Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was’ set, sounding like Vangelis’ score for Bladerunner aged and degraded yet still somehow conveying all it’s retro-futuristic romance. It’s an astonishing ending to one of Kirby’s finest albums.) 30.00

WILLIAM TYLER - goes west LP (merge - WILLIAM TYLER's "new record, Goes West, is the best music that he’s ever made. I’m sure of this because I know and love all of his music intimately, and this album moves me the most, and the most consistently. The first time I heard it was in the late spring in the Texas Hill Country, rolling between limestone and scrub. I was on a cleanse then—no alcohol, no drugs, no evil thoughts—and was astonished at the emotional clarity that the album held. It offered up a model for what I wanted my head to feel like. Goes West marks a sort of narrowing of focus for William’s music; it sounds as though he found a way to point himself directly towards the rich and bittersweet emotional center of his music without being distracted by side trips. Perhaps this is down to the fact that William only plays acoustic guitar on the album, a clear and conscious decision considering that he is one of Nashville’s great electric guitarists. The band that performs Goes West alongside William—including guitarists MEG DUFFY and BILL FRISELL, bassist and producer BRAD COOK, keyboardist JAMES WALLACE, drummer GRIFFIN GOLDSMITH, and engineer TUCKER MARTINE—is the best and most sympathetic group of players that William could have assembled to play these songs..."—M.C. Taylor, Durham North Carolina) 20.00

LAS POFTAS / COLD BRATS - split 7“ (summercide - Bucharest riot grrrl garage punks LAS POFTAS have joined forces with their local pals from 80s inspired goth and post punk tinged hardcore act COLD RATS, a new band formed by former and current members of Bucharest bands BASTOS, ROTHEADS, CARDINAL, and VOID FORGER, for a new diversified, two headed punk split record showcasing 2 different takes on punk.) 6.00

LP

BASTOS - Second Favourite Person LP (summercide - Romania’s saddest boys Bastos are back! This time with a full-length and no longer solely instrumental. Second Favourite Person has been out just for a few days but we already cried a few times over it. Not just because we’re doing a show for them in Sofia, but because we loved their previous record. Not sure how we feel about the band having lyrics now, but we probably like it as well. Vocals are emo to the bone, slightly put back in the mix so they’re definitely bringing a new intensity to the sound and helping Bastos keep their listeners challenged and excited (and sad). Some of the lyrics are in Romanian, others are in English, but they’re short and sincere and we doubt you’ll have hard times understanding them. Second Favourite Person is a crazy, friendly and yet very emotional ride. I kind of like their new approach to production. While their debut split 7″ was clean and spacey, this one is raw, lively and edgy. Probably it was recorded live, who knows. Only thing we know the band did it by themselves and we love that. DIY and sad forever. Give it a spin, grab it for however you can. Make them sad boys happy. (DIY Conspiracy)) 13.00

DIE TÖDLICHE DORIS - Das Typische Ding - REENACTMENT (I) LP-BOX (major - Edition of 400 copies. LP box with 31 sound recordings of dildos and vibrators - A noble, stamped and numbered binder made of bookcardboard with 31 illustrations by Tabea Blumenschein and 31 reviews by Katrin Kämpf on natural paper - Infotext by Wolfgang Müller in German and English. Die Tödliche Doris are back, no kiddin': in the sound spectrum of thirty-one contemporary dildos and vibrators, we are residing in 2019 with a resurrection of The Deadly Doris. She now appears to us as a performer, musician and instrument in one. Doris has never been that close to us. Tabea Blumenschein, a band member of the first hour, made illustrations of all 31 dildos and vibrators. In the Neuköllner recording studio of Frieder Butzmann cultural scientist Katrin Kämpf put the devices into operational and receptive readiness. Her reviews from the magazine L_Mag can be found in the original German version and translated by Anne Gaschütz on the backs of the corresponding portraits. Wolfgang Müller wonders: What exactly was that, the typical thing? A female breast, an oddly shaped phallus or clitoris? Was it a dildo design? Or just a normal penis with supporting spines inside? Wolfgang Müller founded Die Tödliche Doris in 1980, presenting the public persona of Doris as a constantly shifting entity that deliberately engaged the contradictions of the human condition. The band often referenced themselves in the third person singular, alluding to Doris as a fully-formed female character with explosive, colorful emotions "I was trying to think of some music that was equally as genuinely "weird" as The Lemon Kittens and Karl Blake. Basically, the only members on this list were The early Residents, Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask era (Too Popular these days?), Sun Ra, maybe Coil (?), and....ahh!.... Die Tödliche Doris! This stuff easily passes the famous Clearing the Pub test, hitherto known as "Wyatting".(The verb "Wyatting" appeared in some blogs and music magazines to describe the practice of playing unusual tracks on a pub jukebox to annoy the other pub goers;obviously inspired by the solo work of Robert Wyatt.) Karl Blake may have mastered the odd logic of dreams, but The Deadly Doris (Englische version), have mastered the illogic of a very creepy dream experienced under the influence of half a litre of out of date "Night Nurse". Full of everything you need; desperate screamed vocals.....in German! Scraping violin strings! Incompetant childlike drumming! And no recognisable reference to modern pop culture. This music is like a Primal Scream from a long forgotten prison cell; which I suppose West Berlin was a large version of when these nutters were active. Unhinged genius!!" Die or DIY) 45.00

EAGLEHASLANDED / LEFT TO STARVE - split LP (various - Most active diy bands from Croatia and Serbia at this moment.. Splendid mix of sludgy blackened hardcore and 90´s emoviolence. Surely Record for your collection.) 13.00

OJNE - Prima Che Tutto Bruci LP (various - After an EP, "Undici/Dodici", and two splits, the Italian four-piece has finally released their first full length, "Prima Che Tutto Bruci". It's their first album with a new singer, written and recorded between 2014 and 2016 in Milan, mixed and mastered in the States by Mike Moschetto and Brad Boatright. The classic sound of Italian screamo meets the structures of post-hardcore and the atmosphere of post-rock, in a vivid concept album about violence, growth, hope and revenge that perfectly describes the times we're living with a passionate, heartbreaking fury. ) 13.00

SIR RICHARD BISHOP & W. DAVID OLIPHANT / KARKHANA WITH NADAH EL SHAZLY - Carte Blanche LP (unrock - It took more than just some time and imagination to believe that Carte Blanche, this piece of astonishing contemporary music by some of the most talented and able musicians of the international avant-circuit, could be realized. Karkhana, a highly explosive mostly Middle Eastern/Mediterranean ensemble -- Sam Shalabi (Land Of Kush, Shalabi Effect, Dwarfs Of East Agouza), Sharif Sehnaoui ("A" Trio), Michael Zerang (Peter Brötzmann, Hamid Drake, Jaap Blonk, Vandermark, etc.), Mazen Kerbaj ("A" Trio), Maurice Louca (Dwarfs Of East Agouza), Tony Elieh, Umut Caglar (Konstrukt) -- is weaving a tapestry of sound for Egyptian songstress Nadah El Shazly's voice to slide deep into. On the other side, two grand seigneurs of underground, ex-Sun City Girls and Rangda guitar whirlwind Richard Bishop and W. David Oliphant (Maybe Mental) play it loud. Far Eastern post-industrial. Very heavy, sharp, and crystal clear. Ripe. Carte Blanche will be released as a one-time pressing. It is released as a part of Unrock's Saraswati Series. Vinyl cut by Peter Koerfer at Ivory Tower. Extra-heavy deluxe cover, printed cardboard insert. 140 gram vinyl.) 25.00

V/A - Kankyō Ongaku 3LP-BOX (lita - Light In The Attic’s Japan Archival Series continues with Kankyō Ongaku: Japanese Ambient, Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990, an unprecedented overview of the country’s vital minimal, ambient, avant-garde, and New Age music – what can collectively be described as kankyō ongaku, or environmental music. The collection features internationally acclaimed artists such as Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Joe Hisaishi, as well as other pioneers like Hiroshi Yoshimura, Yoshio Ojima and Satoshi Ashikawa, who deserve a place alongside the indisputable giants of these genres. In the 1970s, the concepts of Brian Eno’s “ambient” and Erik Satie’s “furniture music” began to take hold in the minds of artists and musicians around Tokyo. Emerging fields like soundscape design and architectural acoustics opened up new ways in which sound and music could be consumed. For artists like Yoshimura, Ojima and Ashikawa, these ideas became the foundation for their musical works, which were heard not only on records and in live performances, but also within public and private spaces where they intermingled with the sounds and environments of everyday life. The bubble economy of 1980s Japan also had a hand in the advancement of kankyō ongaku. In an attempt to cultivate an image of sophisticated lifestyle, corporations with expendable income bankrolled various art and music initiatives, which opened up new and unorthodox ways in which artists could integrate their avant-garde musical forms into everyday life: in-store music for Muji, promo LP for a Sanyo AC unit, a Seiko watch advert, among others that can be heard in this collection. Kankyō Ongaku is expertly compiled by Spencer Doran (Visible Cloaks) who, with a series of revelatory mixtapes as well as his label Empire of Signs (Music For Nine Postcards), has been instrumental in shepherding interest in this music outside of Japan. Together with Light In The Attic’s celebrated anthologies I Am The Center and The Microcosm, Kankyō Ongaku helps to broaden our understanding of this quietly profound music, regardless of the environment in which it’s heard.) 62.00
